Shamrock is a little over a month away.... why do you think Roslick moved to Madison?  So he can have Hafford and Sarge train him to beat you.

It would by nice to see a real Highland Games in Madison, not just a highland heavy events competition.  If you need a hand putting one together, you let me know, I will hand you the how-to’s, the need to know’s and the P.O.C.’s.: for the Midwest Pipe Band Association, the local highland dancers, the highland county dancers, the local Celtic bands, and the Venders list. There are some grate parks in Madison to put one on; you need to submit your plan and fees, to the Madison parks Service, by October the year before your  event.

Contact your local HLDS instructors and see if one of them will act as your highland dance chair and run your highland dance competition, contact the largest school in your area first, ask if they are interested or if they mite know of any one that would be interested in acting as chair. Highland dance competitions are sanctioned by the Federation of United States Teachers and Adjudicators (FUSTA)   Cost: $1,000.00

Check the MWPBA web site; to see when the local Highland games in the Midwest will be holding a MWPBA sanctioned competitions, this will assist you in finding a date to host your highland games. Have your pipe and drum competition chair person contact the MWPDA president; inform him as to what your intentions are and request his assistance. You will be required to send in a copy of your pipe and drum competitions registrations form (with pay out and travel) for approval, ask him for a list of approved judges and a copy of the MWPBA primer of information on how to run a pipe and drum competition in this area, after your registrations form has been approved. You will need to send it to the pipe bands in the Midwest; the MWPBA has a list of local pipe bands that will be proved upon request.  Cost: $3,000.00 to $5,000.00

Decide on the LOCATION and check its AVAILABILITY.
Create a basic EVENT PLAN.
Research all required PERMITS necessary for your proposed event.
Review all costs and ESTABLISH A BUDGET for your event.

Special Event Fees for 2007

The following fees are provided for your budgeting information.  The final costs will be billed by the Madison Parks Staff.  We are sorry, but there are no discounts given to non-profit groups hosting their event in a city park.  The vast majority of the events held in the City's parks and on State Street are by non-profit organizations.  The City's fees are established in order to recoup the real costs of hosting your event in a city park or street.  The current fees are included in the Special Event Packets so you may set up your event's budget.  It is suggested that when you are setting up sponsorships for your special event, you factor in not only the costs of the entertainment, t-shirts, etc., but also the cost of the permits, equipment, park and shelter rental.

OK.  That was good.

Hay I just found out that Madison now has a Celtic festival, to bad Charley Johnson and the Mad Celt Fest crew decided to hold it on the same day as the Oak brook IL, Highland Games and the Davis Junction Scottish heavy events competition. You would have though that they would have chosen the 28^th of June when there were no conflicting events. Maybe next year!
