Four weeks to Mt Vernon.

Tested and measured today as part of practice to drop a milestone.

Bunch a warmups. Drills in between throws.
3x standing warmup with stone
5x standing w stone to 35
5x glide w stone to 37+.
Stone is moving good for me partly because I could practice this during rehab, and partly because it's a perfect bean shaped stone.

3xcast and throw w LWFD
5x one turns to 50 but inconsistent
5x full to 54 but very inconsistent. Average 51.
Can get more consistent. Able to practice this more now.

7x light hammer. To 79. Average 78.
Hammer continues to elude me, but I'm feeling more fluid and I'm not fighting or losing it as much.

Couple WOB, but transition is disorienting.

Tired. Stopped. No dimming. Seems tolerable. Happy with volume.

Looks like things are picking up for you Greg. You going to throw at Skagit?

That all depends on whether or not you have figured out how the alarm clock works. You may also want to avoid new seafood resteraunts the day before.....

Haha.  The terrible thing about missing Mt Vernon last year was that I REALLY liked that T-Shirt.

Adams wears it to rub my nose in it.   The rat bastard.

My sandlot was freakin' abuzz with wasps today. Thousands of them. Could hear the field from 30 feet away.

Thank goodness the baseball fields are opening up.

Forcing volume adaptation. Working the 70 and 80%

Warmup
Stones x 12, drills interspersed - 37s, 38s. Stones owe me!
Line drills 2x5 turns unweighted
Ditto weighted
LWFD x 4 cast and throw - where's my whip????
LWFD x 5 one turns - found it twice
LWFD x 5 full - meh. Trying too hard. Backed off and smoothed out. 52s.
Light hammer x 8 - meh. Balance. 76ish.

Jay - you're on, man. Love that boar!   2xl?

But what we really need is a Fork Talk sticker!

Hit the field w West Seattle Caber ( and Crappy Old Truck) Club

Stones to 39+. Man, I hope I can replicate this!
LWFD to 50+. Remembering! Less suckage today..
Light hammer to 85. Consistent low 80s.
WoB to second pine branch at the tree next to the boneless chicken grave. Who knows?
Two turn attempts on a smallish caber. Infinite sux..

Attempted a game with a goal of competing in all events and taking a trip to the beer garden.

Failed. Couldn't finish WOB or caber. Faded during stones and wobbled through sheaf. Pulled the plug.

But Tacoma was awesome. Beautiful day. Great venue. Lotta fun. Great to be back on the field.

Beer Garden PR 2013 is underway!

Sunday - slow, smooth throwing.

Reacquainting myself with Masters HWFD after terrible showing at Tacoma.  Hadn't thrown heavy but once since last summer and was discombobulated in the trig.   Not so good for distance, but, those rotations would've made an awesome carnival ride.

MHWFD
5x5 turns on the line.  Or off the line, as it turns out.
6x slow, smooth full throws to reintro timing

LWFD
5x smooth fulls for timing.

Hammer
6 x 3 turns.  Finally learning to feel the 'sit'.

Sheaf
8 x picks from the ground with two different forks.  Turns out Sonja (Irvin fork) is freer with her favors.  The whole WSCC is picking 21, and has climbed past 26' foot with full throws.

Today -
Disoriented on the foam roller.   Too much weekend hijinx.  Can't dominate a brain injury no matter how hard I try.

Ha!  I am lifting again!  And boy do I suck at it.   Beat the year mark.  Still dealing with the free floating in syrup feeling when soreness registers, but, I feel like a real thrower, again.  Just don't tell REAL throwers that.

Felt great!   Let's post these numbers so I can look back and jeer at my Staypuft marshmellow self...

Warmup stuff
Jump rope: X200
Snatches: 3x65, 3x65, 3x85, 3x85:
Front Squat: 10x95, 8x105, 8x125, 6x145, 4x165 <-- I figure max is somewhere around 200.
Three Cycles of count in 30 seconds:
OHP - @75, @75, @95
Weighted Bridge - @135, 135, 135
Ball rollouts
Cooldown stuff

Tuesday - Field
Warmup - Wall balls, slams, heights

16 OStone
3xStands
3xPowerPosition
3xBraemar
8xMSA - Trying to find "up".  Get too many "outs".  Slowed things down to mentally track hip and left arm arc.   Better.

9xHHammer.  Sully style hammer is holding.  More consistent and farther.   However, now Hammer is exercise.  It used to be just a balance drill.  Balance was a significant enough problem that hammer never really burned me out.   That has all changed.  Need to put more focus on LHammer because that's all we seem to throw up here.  Goal is 90, then boots, then farther.

10xSheaf.   Trying to find sheaf mojo.    Began changing width of grip and things clicked better tonight.

Going to Whidbey.  Take another shot at finishing a game this year.

Wednesday - Field/Drills

Wall balls - Stumbled on a young couple rumpin' like bunnies in the storage area.  Nice day for it.
Weighted Line Drills - 8 turns on the line, x 10.  Futzing with landings, hips, feet.
Unweighted MSA step in drills - 8x3.  Futzing with foot, knee.
Prowler walk with waist belt - Piled crap on it.  iPod on. 15mins of cardio.  Low back and butt burn.

Finished the Whidbey Game.   Made it to the beer garden.   That's my win for the year.  And that's pretty much it for the year.  Oh, and saw Lance and got that all back on the up-and-up.

Next phase of this grand experiment is to begin lifting.

Here's how I finished the year:
  • LWFD 57.10.  Game PR.  2012 was 53 8
  • HWFD 37.11 (I think).  Game PR.  2012 was 37 2.5
  • LHammer (boots) 96.  Observed Practice (yesterday).   <-- Third time in boots.
  • LHammer (w/o boots) 89.  Observed Practice.   2012 was 85 9.75
  • OStone 36.  2012 was 38'.   2012 peak was higher, but 2013 avgs are much higher.
  • Braemar 31 10.   Game PR.  2012 was 28 6.   2013 avgs are much higher.
  • WoB 13.  2012 was 14.
  • Sheaf 26.  2012 was 26.
  • Caber is a complete loss this year.

Distances are generally better, despite no off season training last year and very late and limited start to throws.   Guess this speaks to technique improvement, because I am considerably weaker than last year.

Current max lifts are pathetic, but, on the bright side, ripe for improvement!
  • Deadlift Max 245.  365 in 2012
  • Bench Max 155.   225 in 2012.
  • Front Squat Max 185.   245 in 2012

So, next phase is to start amping up strength.   9 months to Victoria.

Will check back in a few months with some distance checks.
