Tim,

If like the WMC 50-54 class of 2010 there are 2 flights of throwers, they divided the throwers by ability assigning them to an "A' class and "B" class flights. Again, not much value to have an unbalanced mix from a spectors or athletes perspective.

Nice job Bob it's not easy to beat the one and only Kevin youngberg...

As a new master this year, I (and my shoulder) are very glad that we are
afforded the chance to throw a slightly lower weight. In the Northeast, I
think we have a very strong master's class of throwers, who are very close
to my own abilities, thus making for some good competitions.

I could throw as an amateur, and yes, I would have a lot less of a chance
to come out on top, but I don't feel like I am running away from
competition.

I would absolutely love it if some of the "older" pros came out to some of
the games I threw at and threw in the master's class, but honestly, if they
can make money as a pro, why would they throw in the Master's class? I
don't think a trophy would outweigh even the meager winnings they
might get by throwing in the pro class.

When I was an amateur, throwing against better amateurs or even with
pro class throwers was always a pure thrill, and I would totally welcome it
as a master as well.

I AD a small Games/Festival here in the SF Bay Area (at least for now) and don't take a dime for it.  I might actually get a few hundred dollars for gear, next year, if we can't contract it out to the SHA.  Maybe. Seeing as the TOTAL budget for the entire festival in 2011, when we started planning in January, was $1400 I think we done good.  We did great this year. WOW!  Attendance was way up!  We're starting out with $4,300 for  the entire event for 2012.

A third of my field is Masters. Another third is <200 pound guys. We get 3-4 women out and I throw all the   200+ pound A's, B's and C's in an "Open Mens" class.  This year I think I had 26 throwers....last year was 24.

An honest question and not meant to spur conflict but reflection:

Is the sky really going to fall if one person wins and another loses?

(Personally, next time I A.D. a small game I am going to open up all classes to minotaurs as well as humans.  Wouldn't that be funny to see their big fat bull heads spinning around?)

Starting Masters at 40, is a preference, being a 40 year old A in nor cal right
now would win Nor cal A's. The Masters 40 in Nor Cal are stronger than the
A Class in NorCal. So if you want the Easy win then throw A if you want a
fight then throw Masters 40. Plus the A class doesn't have enough guys to
have a legit class at most Games. But the 40+ always tends to have a full
class.

Rob - you gotta get in an RV and drive to Cumberland Gap to take on Myles.
You gotta get on an airplane and fly to Loon to challenge the Stewart and Petur .
You gotta get on a plane and fly to PTown to let the 50+ Cal boys know who's boss and enjoy Kel's hospitality.
You gotta drive to Springfield and meet Mark and Brent and Berle.
You gotta go to New Hampshire and look Dirk in the eye.
You gotta drive across the Everglades at 4 in the am to make it to Dunedin and Youngberg and break every field record.
You gotta go to Loon and follow Ryan all day.
Go to Ohhh Canada and find Harvey.
Watch the Rhino clear 21'.
You gotta work 6 f*ckin' months to break a Stewart WR by 3/4 of an inch.

Come to San Antonio next April and fight Crusty the Pirate and Mr. Clean Doctor and some old guy and wee Mikey too.

The best part of being a Master is to seek out and find these rare men and have lusty combat and silly times with them.

I know people have called me a record whore , but my fondest wish is that 20 years from now someone looks at the Master's field records somewhere and says

" Who the Hell was Mike Baab ?!"

and someone says ....."He's still throwin' down in Texas"

Because this is just ego and challenge and fun.

Oh, and the 56 sucks

42's Flyyyyyyyy

May you all have enough gristle to make it to Masters still tossin'.

Mike, I really liked all of what you said. I always wanted to be on the same field with you and myles, great athletes and people.

I remember the first time I was able to throw with myles it was a "great feeling" and honor. Myles beat me and I loved it...

Rob, we are looking at having a Ringold / Ocala rematch. We will
allow one 40-45 year old on each team. J. Baty wants Braidy and
Ocala wants you. Gives you 3 months to perfect your game. You up
for it.

before we go out and destroy the local buffet and bore everyone within earshot with stories about how studly we are.

Gulfport Mississippi in November. Baty says he's going to kick
everyones buttocks! Or maybe next years MWC. Would love to share
the field or buffet with you. Either way my fork flies!

Bill, that is a big honor. I would love to do that but, Braidy and Brent Miller were planning on coming to Ocala for a all out war with myself and Kevin "The Moose" Dupuis throwing in the A- Class, we can switch to the masters if you would like?

Rob, you are our man and Braidy is the Ringolds guy. You can throw in whatever class you want and we will count your scores in the overall. Thinking about adding 1  A class athlete and 1 womans, & 1 40-44 Master (Rob). The rest would be 45 and up Masters for a total of 7 athletes. Still working on the particulars. Would love to have Kevin Dupuis as our A athlete and Lisa Gourlay as our female athlete.
