LOL at the handball comment...
different environment over there, i think. Seems that the consensus is that the whole world is using and the data says that users compete and non-users can't even get invited to the dance, never mind make a podium. I think we're still small enough (and not international enough) over here so the podium spots are still achievable for non-users. tangentially, crossfit is still fringe like us and from what i hear, the winners of past years national comps have been clean athletes. Last year, they paid the winners $250K (wow). won't be long (if not already) before those guys are doped out of their minds. a shame in my opinion...but arguably just human nature / the course of progress. it's good to be on the fringe...

I watched a documentary on last years Crossfit games.....It showed them taking the winners right after winning the competition in for drug testing....
So I guess it's established that with Crossfit that they test right then and there for the winners....

You're absolutely right, I can't speak for every single one. A lot of them are quite open about it though and understand that they just have to pass drug tests as part of the sport. A lot of the Euro coaches are even open about it as well. It's not like it is here where everyone demonizes PEDs and has a holier than thou attitude.
Drug tested != Drug Free They all knew they were gonna be tested, so calling them clean (although they could be) is only accurate on the day of the test. |

I am not sure if the public stance is any different or not, but here are two little anecdotes relating to this. 1. My old coach, who is from a former Eastern European country, told us that back in the 1970's, the budget of the elite T&F clubs literally had a line item for what was termed "supporting means". They were looked upon as sort of advanced supplements for elite athletes and a part of their holistic training programmes. 2. At a dinner following a World Championships in the late 1980s or so, the coach of a very famous shot putter declared openly to everyone at his table that "[his athlete] was so good he could throw 20m clean", the point being that he was not clean (and was therefore throwing much farther than 20m). I am definitely not condoning drug use, which I personally despise, just acknowledging that it is, or "at least" was
, unfortunately par for the course amongst elite athletes in many sports and many countries. |

Along those lines, one of the Euro WL coaches was asked about the amount gained from PEDs for his and other lifters, his response was:
[thick euro accent] "Tablets...five to ten percent." [/thick euro accent] |

Oh, and in case anyone has any illusions about drug use being confined to Eastern European countries at any point in time, my coach also noted that initially those countries learned everything from the top American athletes...

More than that, it only means they were clean to a certain level on the day of the test for the SPECIFIC items that were being tested for (or metabolites thereof, etc.).
Not sure what the crossfitters test for but if they aren't testing for EPO and blood doping then what's the point.
I despise doping but am a realist when it comes to testing and enforcement - nearly impossible.
Oh yeah, add serious money or fame to any competitive event and people will find a way to cheat.

Let's not start throwing stones based on physical appearance, especially around these parts...

The crossfitters? Ya they don't wear belts because of the light weights used, just like you. |

Haha. Or maybe you shouldn't need a belt to squat less than 600. No wait...

This is the belt I wear when I do Crossfit:
![]() They kicked me out because I misread "firebreathers" as "firepissers" and made a bit of a mess.
