I think it should be a rematch of:

Mike Baab  VS.  Myles Wetzel

Two men enter, one man leaves.

Robby baby, Mike and I are on the same team with nothing but tepid water love, but I see you with your stick stirring up that mud.  We will miss you and your growing clan.  And hold your water Mike, we are working on it.  And no chicks this year Dan.  But we do have an ample amount of masters on the teams it appears.  I have never heard of them having a pro and why would that be the right way?

I wish I could be part of your team this year.

The game is 14 hours away and I would have to fly due to no vacation time left and I do not have the extra money with a baby girl on the way.

The South shall rise again . I've never thrown in a team oriented Highland game , this should be a blast! Hell, I cheer for the Mule when we throw against each other - might have to get some pompoms for this.

I talk to Kay about the topic of women at the N/S every year, and every year I ask him to reconsider.

What I hear is that it is not about the ability to find quality female athletes that makes his decision. It is the fact that the last time he had women on the teams he (and the team captains) were given tons of grief, were questioned on their choices, and a lot of "strong disagreements" ensued on all sides.

I was not on either team the last time women were part of the competition. I just know about the sh*tstorm that came out of it in 2003, and that Kay doesn't want to go down that road again.

Josh...sarcastic digs at Kay on a message board do nothing but reinforce his position. I know you did not name names, but the intent is pretty clear. I am just saying.

How do you score the girls, 03 we did it beside the men, but they threw weights that were much lighter.  I think that was confusing for the crowd and me.  Then how do you find girls commited like the men, that are at that level.  There are not many guys that commited, much less girls.  And remember, this is heavy athletics.  It is not a girls sport traditionaly and I am sorry, girls are not strong to throw heavy impliments a long way, and that is what the crowd likes.  Some people are not suited for some sports, but don't change the sport.  As we said with the LW guys, give the girls the 56 and see what is up?  They don't lower the goals in basketball for me.

Your not helping yourself Josh.

I don't agree with your statements Myles but consider you a friend and since everyone is entitled to there own opinions go for it..some of the women I have seen in New England can flat out throw..you score there stone vs your stone..your heavy weight vs there heavy weight and so on ..last time in Montgomery Alabama-believe the North girl, and south girl not only won an event but both women were in the running for the overall and may have placed above you

I am sure it is tough finding commmited women but they are out there-just look, ask and you shall recieve-but being that Kay embraces amtr athletics and shuns pro's like the plague it is a moot point to three of the top 4 women in New England as they are pro women..so they would be ineligible-don't know the status of the other south women

North/South is a great competition just think it is a little jaded to the south teams since the thrashing @ Montgomery

I ran two ladies at Saline this year and we had a blast. Kate Mason and Doreen Hobson. They throw their light weight  vs the mans LW and same for WOB and hammer... It was a hit here in Saline and many people are still talking about it....

I say let the ladies represent North Vs South....

The whole placing above Myles thing is what he is talking about.  I'm sure that he would be more than gracious if anyone - male or female - comes out and throws the same implement farther than him.  Scoring groups together who are using different implements isn't valid though.

The fact is, there are quite a few amateur men that a few of the women could out-throw using the men's implements, but, in an invitational format like this it just isn't going to happen.  So, scoring someone on distance alone who is using a much lighter implement really isn't the right way to go about it.

Whether the women compete head-to-head directly with the men, or if there is an alternative way of including them in the competition, it does not matter. Including them on the team and scoring can be always be worked out.

From what I can tell, Kay is trying to just plain avoid the headaches he dealt with in 2003. Dan just brought up something I never thought of...add into the mix now of who is a pro-woman, and who is an amateur? Ugh.

What it might take is for someone to talk to Kay in person and ask him "What can I do to help you bring women back to the North South game? It is important to me".

Maybe it will do some good, maybe not. However, offering your assistance in the process will get you further than message board criticism, e-mail criticism, and behind the scenes criticism.

Dan...you are misusing the term "beat".  You can only be beaten when someone is using the same implement that you are.  Otherwise it is handicapping...and that is only used for betting purposes.  This is one of the reasons that adding a female to a team like this becomes difficult.

Teams with multiple males and multiple females...with males being scored against males and females scored against females...would be much better.  I don't think that is going to happen in the North/South games though.

Maybe you guys could pioneer a team competition with equal numbers of men and women.
