Phenomenal lift Craig..

I can see where that lift has a direct carry over to the caber also...

so i have a question, what's the difference between the Zercher squat and a front squat, as far as muscle groups worked and benefits?  Whenever I do front squats, or what I thought were front squats, i ususally hold the bar like that because my wrists have problems holding the bar higher.  Am I missing out on something, or is that fine?

Very impressive lifting Craig.

We all followed your lead last season with front squats and improved our throws. This season with the zercher we will all be looking to shatter our PR's.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... that was pretty impressive alright.

But if you don't show on the 19th with a few cases of Powerbars for me and Jimbo then we're done being impressed!

You're seriously holding the bar in the crook of your elbows?  For a "front"?

yeah, it seems to hurt less there.  Mind you this, I basically just started squating this year and even then, I couldn't do back squats because i couldn't get my arms back without some crazy shoulder pain, so I did "fronts," but when I put the weight high, the pain in my shoulder came back, so i put it lower...

No matter how good you do, someone always has to come up with, yea, that is great, but you should see so and so.  Craig doing a raw Zerker is just like some guy going camping in a canvass tent and while he is there doing a bench?

Craig that was a great lift indeed.

Wonder if you felt in the company of the Strongman folks who do the Conan Carry - I believe they use about 600 pounds.

i realize your intent was to praise craig, but you do realize comparing a 600lb zercher and a 600lb conan carry is beyond preposterous?  akin to congratulating andy bolton on his 1003 deadlift then asking if he felt in the company of all the strongmen who do car/silver dollar deadlifts with straps from mid thigh with 1000.

just the feat of walking out backwards and supporting 600 for a zercher squat is an entirely different animal than holding a 600 conan that's lever supported where you can lean back into the apparatus.  not to mention squatting in this bastard position.

Craig,

First, nice lift.

Second, what do you feel are the advantages/benefits of doing Zercher's as opposed to front squats?  I am just curious as I have never done them before or even personally known anyone who has ever done them.  How long does it take your arms to get used to holding the bar like that?

Peter.

Peter - Craig does Zerchers 'cause he can't put a bar on his shoulders (personal issue from a cheerleader lifting incident years ago....I just can't go into it  too painful)....he got me hooked on them a few years back ...you will never, ever have a stronger core or erectors or quads...use a pussy pad and it's not so bad....it's a change up for fronts - he's good at those too....will freak out fellow gym people.
