My bet would be Bruce Jenner as he already has the basic skills of the sport.  However,  Bo Jackson would be tough as well with his natural athletic ability

Karelin threw men around like toys. A 56lb weight would be a joke for him. Off the street Jenner would win, with training Karelin would probably make everyone look bad. Samuelsson and Bo Jackson wouldn't do badly either.

I did not want to put anyone too obvious like Alekna.

I have to agree Karelin is just a freak.

Paul Anderson the strongest man to ever live and possible the fastest......remember the Eastern block weight lifters were crap before Anderson showed they how to squat.........But anderson it to short and fat right? ya you have to be tall like the best of the best in highland games right?

Ideal Body Type Hmmmmmmmmm

ts funny how that works Anderson starts the rise of the Russian weight lifters then Arnold starts the fall of USA strength athletes
next
Magnus Samuelsson.....

Karelin and Jackson are impressively strong but we are talking about elite strength in Magnus......Karelin and Jackson owe success to athletic ability, Reactionary athletic ability which is largely irrelevant in highland games

notice the press at the end, not a jerk or evan a push press
thats insane power you  guys are missin the boat he would rock the 56, 28 with that pull power and the caber would be history WOB may be a little chalenge with his limited height but with 1 month to learn CRS would preval !!!!!!

If all of them had a year maybe he would be beat but in one month thats about 5-6 days per event CRS and speed would be king!!!!!

remember Kaz in the WOB? was that great Bo jackson like grace and speed NO thats Giant Freakisk Spinal erectors

My bet goes with Wilt the stilt, Although that was a very interesting physique comparison between fatty Vierra and "the dixie derrick" Paul Anderson.

I'm with Steve. I'd like to see a 7'1" Wilt working the hammer over the top- (as long as he was wearing an old skool yellow Lakers uniform with the high water shorts and tube socks to his knees)

With no practice, Jenner wins the overall.  He was a 50 or so shotputter, and 160+ in the disc. And he most likely toyed with a hammer somewhere in his career.  Of course I'm biased being a former decathlete

I did read somewhere that Karelin would do zerchers off the floor with 455lbs!

Karelin,Is a massive standout. Did you know he tried Oly Lifting but the russian team was already to deep for super heavies and was better suited for Roman Greco. He was 16 lbs at birth. I think his body weight was 275 and under 8% body fat. Only scored on once and only lost once. Take into consideration his flexibility. I think he would spank everyone. Not to take away the sucess of others. Karelin wasn't called the experiment for nothing.

Karelin
Magnus/Akebono (tie)
Roaf
Jenner

If Akebono gets to compete in a Shinto shrine, then he's #1.

I'd love to see Karelin v Akebono. Now that would be worth the pay per view dollars...

Gotta go with Alexander.  Being a former wrestler and current coach I'd say he'd win anything after watching him on the mat.  Any doubters need to watch the video on the top right.  The guy he is reverse body locking weighs over 300 lb's.

THANK YOU. My thoughts exactly. Try 290lbs at 7% and strong as a bull.

With only one month to train height would be the deciding factor so I gotta go with Wilt the Stilt. Karelin would be close on his heels though.
Cheers,

Carlos

how about Velichko Cholakov?

I think you are all just scared of Karelin......in the end he is the great westler BUT why do you think he would thow as far as Anderson. Anderson is stronger in ever respect, speed = 480 clean and jerk with a stiff bar? today Im sure he would have been closer to the 600lbs mark (he stoped doing oly lifts early so he could be a pro strongman)

Anderson
Bench: 627 pounds

Squat: 1206 pounds

Deadlift: 820 pounds, he pulled a massive 1000 pounds using metal hooks attached to his wrists. This assisted deadlift was witnessed by Tommy Kono

Clean and Jerk: 480 pounds

Push Press: 600 pounds, witnessed by Bob Hise

One Arm Press: 380 pounds, 300 pounds for ten reps; this 380 pound lift was the greatest lift ever lifted overhead with one arm; both were witnessed by Paul Magistratte

Backlift: 6270 pounds, witnessed by Kara Whitfield and Maurice Payne, included in the Guinness Book of World Records
More info

Squat: 900 pounds for 10 reps, John Grimek was a witness to this

800 x 10 (2 sets), Pat Casey was a witness to this

900 x 1 (3 second pause) {done easily in 1956} [witnessed by Iron Man
author, but I do not have his name]

Olympic Press: 425 x 3 (just missed 3rd rep) {exhibition at 1958 dual meet with Russia, this is back when an Olympic press was strict} [Peary Radar was a witness to this]

400 x 7 {1957}

Nah - you're all wrong - Roaf trains for speed, is athletic ,understands technique (that's an offensive lineman's whole game), is obviously coachable AND is fit - won't get hurt...THEN Magnus...then the wrestler.

I can tell this is a fringe sport.  Man, who else would even know who these guys are?

Karelin.  For sure. I don't even buy that Anderson was stronger.  Which may get me shivved, but hey.  Ever stand next to an elite wrestler?  Yes?  Now think about a guy who stompitty-stomped elite badasses for 16 years.  Dude's just made out of a different knda meat.

Look at the size of Anderson's thighs! They may be bigger than Akebonos'!

Anderson - Deseased

Wilt - Deseased or diseased

Akebono - bad pins

Bo - bad Hip

Jenner - to small and Michael Jackson nose

Roaf - MCL could be a problem?

Magnus - Big and strong with speed

Karelin -  Big enough strong enough and fast enough with major flexibility.

Karelin will win everything except 56,wob, and Braemar Caber a tie. Magus gets spanked in the hammers.

funny story my father claims that he was watching the discus throwers practice at the 76 OLY games and the Alex Karras was practicing with them and he toasted them by at least 20ft. Karras could not compete because he was a pro center (never trust a lineman)

I wish I had a nickel for everytime some bodybuilder, powerlifter, wrestler or olympic lifter showed up at one of my training camps and went home w/ their head shoved completely up their ass and both hamstrings pulled- the wrestler would NEVER even touch Butkus -just tellin' the truth Kel - not being an ass.....G-man - good try - he was a defensive tackle  -you know how coached decide if a kid plays offense or defense? On the 1st day they all line up in front of the stadium wall - the coach yells "Charge!" - if you smash your head on the wall you play defense- if you go up the stairs- you're offense
