Our beloved friend and brother in this sport has had a boating accident and is gone.  He was in his canoe on Friday and was alone.  They were able to find him this afternoon.  Pray for the family and may he rest in peace with our Lord.

Spoke with his girlfriend a few times today. She is very
strong for keeping it together for the kids and his
mother. She kept us all informed during the search for
his body. Scott Brantley called a moment ago to inform
me that he was found. All the southern throwers are
pretty much in shock about losing one of our good friends
and ADs. Most of us have thrown with Glenn many times
over the past few years and had a lot of wonderful times
with him. Watching Chafin , Glenn, and Myles picking on
each other at games was hilarious back in the day. We
are all gonna miss Glenn for his great personality and
friendship. He was a loving father of two boys and a
truly great friend. I cannot believe he is gone so soon.
We will never forget him for the man he was... RIP
brother Glenn

Glen was a great man and I cant believe he is gone, Glenn was a great man, and a blast to be around.  I stayed at Glens house two years ago and we had a great time. He came up for a clinic a few years back and stayed at my house and we had a blast.  Im truly saddened by this. I am in shock .  My thoughts and Prayers are with his family.

Unreal...

Prayers with Glenns family...

Stone Mnt was my first game, and it was Glenn who helped me out and got me started. I will miss our talks and his big brother appeal.

Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them.

I can't explain how sad Jess and I are to hear that Glenn is gone.  He was one of the first people I met in the games and was always nice to us, even when others weren't.  He even taught me a few things in the sheaf.  At least I know he's in a better place now, giving out sheaf tips.  I pray that God gives his family the strength to pull through.  We're gonna miss you Mr. Brightwell.

I have never met Glenn, but simply from the quality of the people sending sympathies he must have been a great person. So I say "go in peace" to a brother in the Highland Games.

This is tragic. I mean really, really tragic. I just got
yet another hilarious text from Glenn just the other day.
Glenn was a tireless supporter of the games and always
opened his home to everyone. This is a huge loss.

I'd like some more detail on what the hell happened if
anybody can provide it.

What a shock. It took me awhile before I could even write in. A wonderful funny guy. I met Glenn at Stone and got to throw with him at Blairsville last year, great guy. A tremendous loss. We will pray for his family and those close to Glenn.

As I read all of your posts my mind drifts back to Culloden many years ago when Glenn looked at me and said "I can do that" and that began a very special and important time in both of our lives. Glenn considered it an honor and a privilege to take the field with such a wonderful group of people. People he considered family. Friday afternoon his body finally said enough. He was out on the lake behind the house taking pictures of the snow covered banks when we believe that his pacemaker gave out. Ya'll take care of each other and live everyday with purpose and as Glenn would say Throw Far Brother. I'll post more as we know it.

First and foremost, I'm sorry for his loss to his family, friends, and all those who knew him.

Second, could someone post some info about him?  I'd like to know more about him.  Sounds like he had kids?  Sounds like he was a genuine person.  I wish I'd got to know him.

WOW.

I really don't know what to say. I guess I'll share some of my thoughts on Glenn. Glenn was one of the first people to welcome me to the games, he was always really supportive. Back in 2006, his last comp right before he went in for his heart surgery, we were at Waxhaw throwing together. I just hit a PR in the 28, and was super happy. Glenn was the first one to run up to me and give me congrats. For the next 3 throws we worked on his technique and he came out on the last throw with a lifetime best, and his first 60' throw. That was the highlight of my day and the perfect cap to the end of BOTH of our seasons. A man who loved the games, loved being around people, but who's body was giving out. He had a strong finish and reached a new lifetime best in the 11th hour of his career. All with a smile on his face and love for those around him.

The last time I saw him was at Eric's wedding. We shared stories and laughs over a beer. I am sorry I will have to wait to see Glenn in heaven to finish our conversation.

Rest in Peace my friend. You will be missed.

Bert
