9/24 probably too many throws the day before a games

22lbs Braemar x6 best of 33'

16lbs open stone x6 best of 43'

56lbs hwfd x6 best of 33'

56 and 42 wob pulls x too many

I get really dizzy during certain parts of throws, but if I just right it out, it's fine. That's good to know

9/25 Throwing for the Cure

First of all, what an awesome event. The venue was great. Awesome field and lots of money raised for a great cause. The highlight of my season was getting to see Jason Clevenger again. I missed his sweaty mean hugs and general ball busting. As for my throws, they weren't good.

Sheaf- 25' had a couple good pulls at 28', but it just wasn't there today.

Heavyweight- 39' walked through my first throw for a lazy 39'. Tried to get after it on my next two and fouled them both. Oops.

Lightweight- 60'10" not terrible given the circumstances

Wob-15' just felt drained

Braemar- 34'11" my best throw of the day. It was a very round stone with a tough tuck and handle, so 34' was a great throw for me.

Open- 42'3" not bad, but I felt like a big throw was there so a little disappointing.

Heavy hammer- 71' so bad.

Light hammwr- 88' even worse. Hit the ground on my first two and just put out a lazy safety throw to get a mark.

Caber- 12:00 on a decent caber. Good way to end it

I'm trying not to be too hard on myself over this one. The shingles symptoms are still bugging me. I had to battle through some vertigo, lots of head preasure, and some random bouts of confusion that were kind of concerning. It's not the end to the season I wanted, but perhaps it was the one I deserved. I've got plenty to work on this off-season. Time to recover and get better.

9/28 squat

High bar

135x5, 135x5, 225x5, 225x3, 275x3, 295x3, 325x5, 325x3

My vertigo is still vertigoing, so I didn't feel confident in front squatting today. Back squat has been feeling very uncomfortable over the last few months. I'm going to try to find some way to make it feel less shitty over the next few weeks. Play with bar placement, stance, etc. And try to find something that doesn't feel like crap and is sustainable.

10/3 deads and throws

I decided to try what I did last time I hurt my back and had to work my way back for deads. Doing doubles starting very light and gradually working my way up over weeks/months while staying far from failure. Probably add 5-10lbs a week and hope things feel better as I go.

135x8, 225x5, 315x5, 335x2, 335x2, 335x2, 335x3, 335x2

Throws

42 hwfd x5 best of 43'

Sheaf pulls x6 were weird

Bladeless hammers

16 x4 best of 90' then I broke it as I was figuring things out.

22 x 5 best of 75'

Feeling some things without blades. Probably going to do most of off-season training sans blades. I need to get back to basics.

Beware of the sweet siren that is bladeless hammer.

It's so convenient and easy to fetch them. But the more bladeless hammer you throw, the less you throw as you would with blades.

I do think so bladeless hammer is a good thing!! I do it over the winter when I wanna throw in the snow/ice out of a shot put circle.

But yeah, just a buyer beware!

I hear ya. Hammers have just been such a cluster fuzz that something has to change. Most of my winter training consists of blameless winds anyway. That set me up well last year coming into the season, so I figured I might as well get a jump on it. I'll probably throw the blades on a couple times yet, but I crave different right now.

10/7 squat

Trying doubles for squat just like deadlift. I need things to start moving right again.

135x8, 225x5, 275x5, 315x2, 335x2, 335x2, 335x2, 335x2

Squats moved well. Tried a narrow stance and didn't push my knees out. It's probably not optimal for maximizing strength but it was comfortable so hopefully it'll be sustainable. My brain was weird tonight though. Random unplanned paused reps. Not ideal.

Front squat

335x1, 335x1

Comfort over max strength.

In this sport, you don't need to squat a house to do well

....although, I hear it does help

10/11 bench and deads

Bench

135x8, 135x5, 155x5, 185x5, 205x11

Paused close grip

205x8, 205x8, 205x6

Deads

225x5, 315x5, 345x2, 345x2, 345x2, 345x2

This is the first time I've left the gym feeling optimistic.   I missed deadlift and they felt good today. Granted, the weight was light, but it felt and moved like lightw eight which is good.

10/12 squat and throws

Squat

135x5, 135x5, 225x10, 225x10, 225x10

Played a couple holes for frolf.

Throws

Bladeless heavy hammer x4 best of 72'

With blades x4 best of 81'

Light hammer x6 best of 103'

Hammers are feeling less shitty. Was going to do some bladeless light hammer but didn't feel like changing my shoes again.

Bunch of sheafing. Figuring some things out again. Took a few spins that actually went pretty well.

That's usually how it goes. I do my least shitty work when it matters the least. I'll have plenty of time to re-F myself

10/15 more deadlift

I missed a workout last week, so I smooshed it in today since I'll be spending the weekend duck hunting.

135x8, 225x5, 315x4, 355x2, 355x2, 355x2, 355x2

1.5" deficit just to see how it felt

355x2

Didn't feel bad, but I was a bit apprehensive. I'll work these back in slowly.

10/20 another morning workout. Squat today

45x10, 135x8 135x8, 225x2, 315x2

These felt bad. When I would hit the hole, my left ham/butt hurt. Because of this, I decided to throw in a box.

16" box squat

225x10, 225x10

In between sets I screwed aroubd with some different stances and bar placement to see if I could find something that didn't hurt. I went with a moderate stance, toes forward, and slightly higher bar placement. That was the hot ticket for today. Seems like every day is different, but as long as I'm able to get some work in, It's cool.

Last two sets with no box

225x10, 225x10

Simple. There was frolf to be played or disc golf if you're a pretentious buttfart.

11/1 squats

135x5, 135x8, 225x10, 225x10, 225x10, 225x10, 225x10

Pushed the pace and got done in about 20 minutes. Felt like absolute balls afterwards. Thought I was going to puke. I refuse to believe I'm in that bad of shape. The workout itself didn't feel hard. I blame my belly full of Halloween candy. Regardless, I'm going to keep on keepin' on with the work capacity building stuff for squats.

Gym candy has been an integral part of my success in lifting. I do not make these accusations lightly. Twelve Laffy Taffys is too much. I know this now. Candy is the cause and solution of all of my problems.

11/3 pressing

Deloading a bit from bench so went with a low volume OHP today.

45x10, add red bands, 95x5, 115x3, 135x2

No bands

155x2, 175x2, 175x1

3 second eccentric ohp

135x3, 135x3, 135x3

I've largely eliminated OHP from my life, and it's been wonderful. Today was a good reassurance that I did the right thing.   I'll probably do it once in a while just to remind myself how much it sucks.

Frolf x18 holes

I threw my driver in the pond (unintentionally). I'm going to bring my chest waders next time and retrieve it. I love that disc.

Chest freezer carry from the garage to the basement. Those things are light but awkward. Now to fill it with woodland creatures.
