rowed the currach yesterday for an hour with Big Headed Honky and Thundersnow.

makes me appreciate throwing a bunch, blister on my left hand and a bruised ass. The only thing that would make me a better rower is more endurance, its not a very technical sport and I'm pretty sure I learned everything I need to know about 7 years ago. There's so many things to learn about throwing.....pretty much the main reason I'm much more focused on it this year.

The rowing community is a bunch of fun ass drunken Irish folks though, I'll miss traveling with them.

How about a paddle instead of a 2x4 to make you a better
rower? Just sayin'

yoke all for 60'
292x2, 392x1, 492x1, 532x2

2"axle DL off 3mats
115,205,295,385x3, 435x1, 385x9

incline bench (speedy)
135x3, 185x3x3

overhead strict on 15"camber
95x5
add 40lbs of kettlebells hung by mini bands
3x3

considering that canoe thing I did, this wasnt so bad. looking forward to some weekend rest and throwing tomorrow

shooting for some big numbers next Tuesday overhead, also going to try and get back on track with my squat and dl plan.

I havent gone into he gym with a plan in about a month. Its been a nice break, but I've gotta get back to staying strict and focused.

Here's an old vid of me throwing kegs.

squat
45,95,135,185,270,288x5        306x10   10 rep pr  its been awhile since I've had a gym pr, felt good, nice and deep on all of 'em

2" Axle Overhead  95, 155, 205, 225 x1
Cleaned 250 x1

I know I can get 250, I've pressed it from a rack, I think trying it towards the beginning of my session will prove beneficial

360 farmers to 375 tire, each for 60' x2

Pretty happy with all of this. I've been trying to get some newer folks to train with. Not that I dont love the staples that I started with, but some new energy helps a bunch.

Had Alvaro Mendoza in on Tuesday. Dude is a blast to to have around and we've been throwing together quite a bit. Hoping his hammer technique rubs off on me.

been throwing lots of ghetto stone lately. me putting a 16b shot from the sidewalk into a vacant lot next to my house.

feels like the braemar is catching up to the o stone some, I'd consider this a good thing.

Squat
59,149,199,288,306x3, 324x9 (9 rep pr)

having a little in house PL meet next Friday, shooting for 400 raw. Bryzcki says I got it. I'm defo not a PL guy, but its in my home gym the same nite I usually train anyway. I figure if anything its a good half year gauge.

Log Press
86x5,128,148x3, 201x2

Speed DL with mini and medium bands around feet
185x5, 235x5x3

random tires from 275 to 700

bench 135, 185x3, 225x3x3 with signals (see above comment)

box jumps
seated 18 to 30
I know 30 inches isnt a big deal, but I dont run up and its not about hip flexibility for me, i didnt high jump 6'4" as a kid due to being stretchy, it was cause i didnt cheat my plyo work.

one handed snatch
95x2x3 (fun)

thrusters
185,205,225x1

i've never done these, but there's a xfit comp thing going on and I just needed to make sure those guys werent stronger than me.

best session i've had in a long time. 2 new guys in the gym, both d1 football guys, helps a lot with keeping the energy high.

front squats
45,95,133,183x5  221,261,301x3 pretty pumped to be tripling over 300, hopefully that'll equate to a 300# stone this Sunday

mini band pull aparts

log press work on hip drive, jerk and catch

Nice keg toss.

Thrusters suck the life out of you. In my CF days they had
a workout called Fran. 21 reps of thrusters followed by 21
pullups, 15-15, 9-9 for time.

Keep up the good work, JVC.

did a strongman show yesterday, it was kinda humbling. I didnt realize until I got there that almost everyone in my class had cut weight and weighed in the day before. Me.....I was 6lbs under. Also, it was the first time I felt older in my field.

Despite that, I still tried to put in a decent first showing for an NAS event. Nothing felt too heavy, I was comfy with everything, but most competitors were able to move the implements faster, which ultimately sucked for me. Didnt stick around to see where I finished, probably somewhere in the middle.

To be really competitive I'd probably have to gain some weight and give up my throwing time to work with those implements. I like throwing way too much for that, so....Imma gunna stick to it.

Ultimately I got out of it what I needed, some motivation to keep moving towards stronger and faster. That was worth the drive itself.

would love to, but I've got a wedding.
I'll make that one next year.
Loose schedule goes NoHo>Quechee>Capital Region>Pipes>Scotland, CT>OBX

I'd like to get a full strongman in there somewhere to redeem myself now that I'd be comfortable with it. The fella that owns my gym ok'd me to throw an event there, and its large enough to do 100' FW or Tires.....so we're thinking something small over holiday time.
Plus I'd also like to do an old school weightlifting competition. Like a full PL and OLY meet, plus all those old movements that dont any attention anymore, there's a great thread in here somewhere about it.......I'll try to find it.

doing a little traveling yesterday so I stopped in Hybrid Athletics in Stamford to get something in.

worked up to the following.

Push Jerk  245
C+J (split) 245
Front Squat 30

good enough for being in a new spot, but I realized I need lots of work on my form. Lots more in the tank, but if I cant start getting under the bar, I'm going to hit a wall.
bought some OLY shoes, they should be here for a tiny meet I'm doing Saturday.

knew I couldnt get to the regular gym tonite, so I went back to my high school hi jump practice. Dunkin'.
Spent about a half an hour trying to get the springs back I had half my life ago.
real fun, my buddy that used to play at those courts 15 years ago joined me. nothing like guys in their mid 30's thinking they're 16.

went to train with the girlfriend and her roommate, its his birthday, so we did a half assed OLY meet. Only worked up to 165 snatch, so sad....but I'm sure yesterdays dunkfest had lots to do with it.

Then
2xBW DL for 1, BW 2"axle to chins to BW Front Squats, 5,4,3,2,1 for 8:35

snatch
100x1x20
squat clean
95x5x3
overhead squat
95x3x5
chins 5x5
shoulder horn 26x5x5

I've decided that my OLY form is laughable, so I'm starting over. It sucks, but I'm positive will pay dividends in the long run. I can only fake it by muscling shit up so long. Plus the flexibility thing.

Better get used to lighter stuff faster as well, Power Factor starts next Tuesday, right after Glasgowlands.

Training with these PL guys that live and die by the singles, doubles and triples is going to be kinda tough, but I'm sure I'll find some new goals to shoot for soon enough.

I also just came home to garbage everywhere, my dog is a f**king dickhead.

Threw yesterday at Glasgowlands.

1' PR in the Open Stone. Up to 37'4" now. I've got some games coming up with some sweet stones, I want more.

3 good rips at 14' weight over bar. I love hearing "you had the height", must be the most over used phrase at games. Power Factor starts this week, pretty sure that plus some speedy banded deads will get me there.

80 or so on a caber that I think I turned last year. Too much running, not enough pulling.

Weights.....embarrassingly bad. So I went out and threw some LW today. Felt great. I think its in my head, and thats a weird spot to hang out.

Great folks, beauty of a day plus Markx2 provided some great comic relief....as always. Also met some real cool fellas from out of town, hopefully we'll catch up again in the fall when I get down there.

One day of training this week, gonna try to start throwing more with a purpose instead of just whipping crap around. Strongman next Sat at Harpoon Brewery.
