Throws. Not the night I wanted but got some reps in.

16# Ostone
Fronts x4 best of 40'
Stands x7 best of 44'
Glides x6 best of 48' not bad, stone feeling good lately just not truly going all out

Heavy Hammer x1 lol then it broke. I did some Wind and slam into the ground drills first but yeah, bummer.

Light Hammer x6 best of 127' stopped then because my right oblique is a little sore from my lift yesterday and it was starting to talk to me. Not an injury at all but just being smart.

Did some WOB at home. Trimmed a branch back that had options at 14'4, 15'3, and 16'1 (nice curve to it)

Took about 10 throws cleared some 14'4 and 15'3 but didnt try for 16'1. Just trying to nail down some good rhythm.

Then I lifted

Went to throw after work.

HWFD
1-turns x4 best of 38' woo
Fulls x6 best of 41' not as woo

LWFD x2 and then I felt a pop/snap behind my left knee. Panicked mildly but walked around and it felt stable. Did a couple squats and it was a little tight but nothing bad.

Later that night and the next morning it stiffened up fierce. No swelling oddly, but I couldnt bend my knee using my muscles, only passively. Eventually, used some voodoo floss and aleve and it loosened up and walking became normal. Went to urgent care because all orthos are closed on weekends (the only time people get hurt! lol) and he said all my CLs and meniscus feel strong and they are not causing pain.

Likely a high calf tendon strain or hamstring strain. either way, it's 3 days later and I went on a 2 mile walk with my dog and it felt fine. Certain movements still give me a dull pain, like anything related to a heel strike. Being on toes/balls of feet feels fine.

Not sure how this weekend at detroit will go, but i'm gonna try it out. Wont throw or do anything stupid until then, but will keep doing some rehab work on it.

Dicked around and did some upper body training today. In between sets I did some ankle mobility work with bands, Hamstring curls with bands, and TKEs. Nothing caused pain, some minor discomfort but nothing that made me need to stop

Hopefully getting some blood flow into the area will accelerate healing.

That's all for today. Will do more tomorrow, maybe some abs and stuff too.

Did some drills/tests/throws in my yard/driveway to see what was what

Everything held together well. Some mild pain during stone drills but that was it. We shall see!

Detroit Highland Games, Livonia, MI

PROS: Nathan Burchett, Chuck Kasson, Damien Fisher, Tom Sroka, Sean Urquhart, Jeff Kaste, John Pilling, Dan Tennison, Luke Crowley, Kevin Becker, and Gilly.

18# OStone- 43'9
LWFD- 76'8
22# Hammer- 103'6
Caber- 70 degrees
WOB- 15'

Overall: 7th.

Really happy about this weekend. Numbers were poop for the most part but my knee/leg survived! It only really bothered me in stone, hence the garbage number. Everything else I just didn't hit a good throw. But there was no catastrophic failure or lingering pain so it was great.

Will continue to train and do rehab on it for the next week or 2. Hoping the issue is completely gone by Maine. Fergus this weekend!

Went to throw a bit, had to work some stuff out in weights

HWFD x8 best of 40'-41' very happy here. Distance is whatever but it's been a couple weeks since I have thrown this and I was able to clean up my first turn, which has plagued me. Knee was a little wonky and I definitely was more hesitant with the heavier weight to really plant and drive over it. I added some extra compression with tape and that helped.

LWFD x8 best of 80' this was much better. 4 throws over 79' which has been all but non-existent this year.

Finished with some 28# Pud throws x20

Likely wont be able to practice again due to impending thunderstorms today, traveling on Thursday and Friday for my long journey to Fergus!

Fergus Highland Games, Fergus, Ontario, Canada

PROS: Dan Tennison, Rob Young, Jamie Gunn, Jamie Trask, Jeremy GIllingham, Nathan Burchett, Jeff Kaste, Chuck Kasson, Lorne Colthart, John Pilling, Josh Goldthorp, Owen Willems

25# OStone - 36'1
HH- 106'4
LH- 128'8
HWFD- 44'4
LWFD- 78'1
Caber (19'6, 110) 1:15
Sheaf (bonus money only)- 27'
WOB- 14'

Overall: 7th

Mamma mia what a competition. I feel like I threw pretty well and could barely muster 7th. Just an all out battle, the top 3 only slightly separated themselves from everyone else, but no one was a clear favorite all day. I think LWFD and WOB were my 2 worst events, and WOB didn't matter much for placing based on who else made 14' or 15'. LWFD would have turned the tides a bit had I been able to throw like 81', and my final throw was better than 78' but foul. Oh well.

Had a blast, ate a lot of poutine, and just love these games. Hope to be back in the not so distant future.

Only 2 games left for the season: Maine and Wisconsin. Going to make the best of it and hope for good numbers for Celtic next year.

Thanks dude! I really need to be more strong in certain areas but I never make the gains I need because every time I start moving in the right direction, it's time to throw again so I lose all the momentum I built up.

I have to remind myself that I don't lift to be a power lifter/body builder and it helps...a little....god my arms are small

Moar throws

HWFD x6 best of 41' this felt great, just took it easy, stayed long.

LWFD x7 best of 80' more consistently good than yesterday. Happy here too.

Light hammer x7 best of 132' had a tough time getting beyond 127'. Hit is 3 times in a row. Wasn't reaching to the right on my third wind as far as I could be and once I added that, it flew. Whew.

Rest for 2 days, some light movement and blood flow work, and then Maine games Saturday.

Maine Highland Games, Topsham, Maine

PROS: Jeff Kaste, Eddie Brown, Beau Fay, Matt Doherty

23# Braemar- 37'9
16# OStone- 47'11.5
HWFD- 42'2
LWFD- 83'9
HH- 104'2
LH- 128'8
Caber (18'6, 120#) 12:30
WOB- 15'
Sheaf- 26'6

Overall: 1st.

Was really happy with how I threw. We had a small class so we threw with the pro masters the whole day which was great since all those guys usually throw pro with us. Not sure if Pro Master will continue at Maine, but it was a great success!

Should have hit bigger numbers with stones and HWFD was UGLY because my first turn was gigantic on each throw. I kept that going into LWFD and fixed it at the last moment to hit a good throw for me. Hammers were fine but i felt my oblique/ab area stretching a bit. Not a strain as there was no immediate pain, but I didnt wanna push it.

Thrilled the most about caber. Never turned that stick, in 3 or 4 years of using it. FINALLY defeated it, twice! And had good pulls on the challenge bounty caber. Zolk had the best attempt at it but it still would not turn.

Thank you to Alison and all her volunteers for being awesome and making Maine a fantastic games!

2 weeks until Wisconsin, the finale to this season as I will not be at Loon (worlds) and did not make the cut for Celtic. Sad, but it's all good. Excited for the Wisconsin games and the wacky day 2 events I keep hearing about!

Throws

HWFD x8 best of 41' just working positions more than anything

LWFD x10 best of 77' fixed my first turn, which is nice! But distances suffered because of my focus on that.

My right oblique/side/fat feels kinda hurty. May not throw much else but stone in the next week to avoid hurting it more. We'll see.

Turns out my side fat pain was a trigger point near the back of my ribcage/QL area. I beat the hell out of it and it feels a lot better.

Decided to throw a little light hammer in celebration.

McKim Drills x6

16# Hammer x7 best of 130' didn't go balls out and it was good.

Then did some oly hammer with the scots hammer to prep for wacky events at Wisconsin

full 3 turn throws x6 best of 150' pathetic but fun!
