State of the Union...

Work: seven years left. House still stands, fridge has food in it, and we are warm while the snow flies.

Family: all are healthy and under one roof. One in college, another working, a junior, an eighth graders that still hugs his Mom every night before bed, and a nine year old who loves beating his Mom in RISK. Twenty five years this July.

Training: 190#. Strength gains even at my age. Being smart as slow and steady wins the race (usually third but still making the podium). Hope to compete somewhere in 2021.

Remember to be kind out there. Peace.

State of the Union:

History Synopsis: Started throwing A-Class back in 2009.  140-lb Crossfitter.  Quit that.  Gallon of milk a day for two years.  Switched to power lifting.  Climbed to 210-lb.  Got older.  Settled in at 190-lb and now in the Master-Class.

Work: Employed at the same hospital now for 16 years (OR Circulator).  Great shift 0630-1430 Monday through Friday.  Keeps a roof over our heads, food on the table, and clothes on our backs.  9 years left to go.

Family: Two oldest graduate from HS this May.  One Freshman looking forward to driver's training, 12 year old looking forward to 13 and a seven year old that loves his mom.  My wife and I are looking 23 years in the mug.  I am truly blessed to have my best friend at my side.

Training: Lifting two days a week and now throwing two days a week.  Picking up where I left off last season and feeling good.  Need to improve on hammer; I bleed points here.  My training partner has moved and it is not the same without him.  Hope to get together from time to time as he is only an hour away.

Other Factors: After getting fired from my coaching positions (lifting, throwing, JV HC for football, Varsity O-line coach) last year I am back at it again; the principle is out and the committees voted me back in.  So my throwing season is going to be a bit shorter than last year.

Outlook: If the snow stays away I would say a strong showing is upon us.  Good luck in your training bros in throw.

Peace.

1 minute rest between.  SS the leg sled and calf raises.  WO began at 0500.  This early morning WO will take some adjusting but with football season coming (promoted to coaching varsity OL) it seems like a good idea.  Less time away from the wife and kids makes less stress on the system and I still get my work done.

Evaluation this Thursday on the shoulder.  With no games now until MWC in September and taking the rest of July off from throws practice and pick it back up beginning of August this should be good.

Saline, MI: Hot, muggy, ground very soft, and trig boxes get slickery

HMR: First throw with HH and LH easy out there then the next two attempts with each hit the ground

SHF: Out at 22'

Finished 6:7.  Jeff Armstrong, Damon Barth, and Jason Clevenger took top three.

Note: The ache in the shoulder is gone in the morning.  Yesterday noticed the shoulder/bicep ache/burn on the upright row and barbell curl (but not the DB curl...).

Married a few years ago to a very nice lady back in 2013.  Working with a roof over their heads, clothes upon their backs, and food upon the table.  Life throws a few curve balls his way but he is still at the plate swinging; such is life.  Still lifts, helps others in their training, officiates at power lifting meets, judges at the Gaylord Games when he can.  Doing well.

1 minute rest between.  There is overall muscle soreness but nothing killing me.  I am enjoying the tempo of the lifting.  Feeling poppy in everything as opposed to the grinding lifts I did all off-season; change is not always bad.

1 minute rest between.  Right shoulder sore on the pressing movements thought yesterday it did not bother me on the overhead stuff nearly as much.  Practice in a bit.  Easy throws.

Practice:

Stones: Okay
WFD: Heavy was subpar but even 70% in LWFD beat my efforts this Saturday past.
Caber: Weasy forever.  Ethyl 0:1.  Holly 0:1.
HMR: Getting my legs into the throw more.
Sheaf: Again using more leg.  Most consistent event right here.
WOB: Pass.

1 minute rest between.  Dr. said the AC/Bicep (which still 'burns' for lack of a better word) can ease back into lifting.  So here I am easing back.  I can throw but reduce the number of throws and effort to 60-70% for now and see how it goes.

SAT.  27JUN15.

Sixth Gaylord Highland Games.  Took 6th out of 10.  Subpar effort.  Hard to throw and AD at the same time.  I am considering finding another AD emeritus on game day or not throwing next year.

Addendum.

Stuck to my guns.  3-5 throws at 80% with each implement.

Stones: good form.
WFD: better than expected.
Caber:  took Weazy out for a ride.  3:3.
Hammer: feeling better here on my technique.
Sheaf: steady.
WOB: 3 for 3 at 12'.  Nice easy pulls.  Felt like I was pulling a long time.

Motrin, home made Mac N' Cheese, frozen custard, and for bedtime snack: Culver's butter burger, cheese curds, and a Carafe of water.

Not what I wanted for my 1,000 post but here it is: diagnosed with a sprained AC joint.  Rest the arm.  Motrin.  Ice.  Was planning on practice SAT/WED and deloading in the weight room going into the Gaylord games.  Now we sit out SAT and hope for some throws on WED before game day.

SAT.  13JUN15.

Sandy Pines, MI.  Master Class.  2nd place finish [Dale Gehman, Me, John Tracy, Greg Breen, Joe McGregor, Jerry Bowersox]

Open Stone: 30'+
HWFD: 28'+
LWFD: 41'+
HH: 60'+
LH: 71'+
18'6" Caber:  2:30, 11:00, 11:30
WOB: Out at 13'
Sheaf: Out at 22'

For the stone and WFD it felt like I was throwing in a phone booth.  The lines painted did not seem right to me; looked way small.  The hammer throwing area was uphill given the area was small.  Still I am blowing through the pull.  I need to build more gradual the speed so I can get a good pull and include my legs in the throw.  Caber was fine except my first attempt as I pulled way late.  Really wanted 13' as that would have given a new PR.  Stood the weight on the bar like it was on a table and then it fell back my way; close.  Sheaf was hard as they threw the A, B, Women, and Masters all together so we sat a long time before we came in.

Weather was nice.
