I may not be some big bulky, but I am going to work this out.  Yes I run and bike, but I just did Ironman, so those are default cardio things for me.

I am also lifting 3 times a week. and eating!

that is all

open to critique.

The caber all starts with the pick...I would practice that over and over until it becomes automatic.

Try to commit too pulling the caber and catching it versus getting the fingers underneath it and running in a bent knee position.  Google-Jim Mc GOldrick or Matt Sanford for POSTURE pics.

GOOD LUCK

Mr. Fly, not bad!

Here's a few things I would encourage you to try:

1.  Listen to Coach Mac.  The "pick" is critical.  Work on it.  The "pick" is simply squeezing the caber with your palms and hoisting it into the air and placing your interlocked hands underneath the caber.

2.  When you're bending down to "pick" the caber, get your butt in the air.  I feel it's best to have your back almost (not quite) parallel with the ground.  Had this been a unfamiliar caber for you, you might have been squished, had it fallen back on you.  By having your feet further away from the caber, you can gather it and control it better once it's off the ground.  With you in the position you're in, the caber has no place to rest against when you're "picking" it.  Go ahead and put a solid shoulder in it while it's still on the ground.

3.  Stand up with the caber.  Once you've got it and you're off, stand up, and pull that caber up and close to your body.  You're never leaving the crouched position.  This is awfully hard to get full control of the caber.  Also, when you're running crouched, you're using your chest, not your shoulder, to help control and even drive the caber forward.  Get that shoulder into it and use it to help you guide and control your approach.

This is not a selfish plug, but check out my website below.  Go to the videos page and click on the caber tutorial.  Here, I show you what I mean with the above.  Hopefully it's easier to understand than my ramblings.

Again, Mr. Fly, great start!  I was buried by so many cabers when I first started ... you're will on your way to enjoying this complex event!  Good luck, and I hope to see you on the field one day.
