Topic: 42lb ?

Subject: 42lb ?

any idea how 56lb WFD and 28lb WFD translates to the 42lb for distance-- for example 56lb throw of 30'3" and 28lb at 60'0" should in theory yield about a 45' 42lb throw, -does this seem to bear out in actual practice?-- brand new to sport (over 40y/o) and have not been able to practice with 42lb.  Also same question regarding WOB (56 v 42).

Thanks in advance

I have found that if you throw the 56 about 30' that you can throw the 42 about 40' . I've thrown the 56 wob about 11'6" and the 42 wob close to 15'

hope that helps !

41 years old -amateur / master

throws this year   =   28 # - 59'

56 #-distance- 27'  , 56 #-height 13'

42#-dist - 39'10  , 42#-height - 15'6

P.R. throws-  28# -63 ,  56# -dist- 30', 56#-height 14',

42# height-17'

Hope this helps

Shawn,

For what it's worth, this year:

56# WFD = 28' , 42# WFD = 41' , 28# WFD = 61'

56#WOB = 13'4",  42# WOB = 16'

I'd say I rely more on speed than strength and mass, and I think that shows in my 28# and 42#.

Standing 56 wob 15.7 - standing 42 wob 19....................spin wob 56 14 - spin wob 42 19.9.............56 throw 39- 42 throw 51.9 - 28 throw 75...........you can muscle the 42 MUCH more than a 56 - I throw the 42 like a 28. It is MUCH harder to throw a good 56 4 distance. 14lbs of Hell.

I read an article by Harvey Barkauskas somewhere (it was online) where he came up with a factor of 1.4.  Not sure how he arrived at that; if it was his own throws or throws of others.  Anyhow, it seems to be pretty accurate.  (Not for everyone obviously, but on average.)  A 56# thrown 30 feet would equate to a 42# thrown 42 feet.

This has scary implications for someone like RV; a 56# thrown 45 feet translates to a 42# flying 63 feet!

ummmm ...that just might happen this weekend in Loon. I'll be spectating as much as throwing.

Thanks to everyone-  looks like I can expect to throw in the low 40s (unless I get better)

Mike Baab- good luck in upcoming games (it's good to see a fellow Longhorn doing well)

Threw the 42 in anger for the first time because someone forgot the 56.

PR 56 WFD - 31+
PR 42 WFD - 44+
PR 56 WOB - 13'6"
PR 42 WOB - 16'6"

Everyone is right though. THrowing the 42 is WAY different than the 56. I
like the way Baab called it 14 lbs of hell.

This was all in my lighter days. (15 pounds ago)

56 WFD: 35
42 WFD: 47
56 WOB: 14 Standing and spinning
42WOB:   18'6'' Spinning 16'6'' standing.
28:      74

I hope that helps, but I am sure that it is a little skewed because I was a
lightweight.

I have problems with gripping the 56 and not the 28 or the 42 that is
partly why I throw them better.

I threw the 42 lb 58 ft after I had been in the 41 range on the 56 for a couple of seasons. You still can't break it down so evenly though, because timing changes even from 56 to 42, then even moreso to 28. Note that some guys are knocking at 50 with the 56, but nobody is close to 100 yet with the 28, so proportional distance/weight don't hold up as the distances get higher.

These are contest throws (becuase, quite frankly, I've had a couple of weird throws in practice that skew my  PR numbers, such as twice I've thrown over 70' in practice on the 28, but seem to be lucky to get 60 in a meet):

WFD 28lbs 64', 42lbs 42', and 56lbs 31'

WOB 56lbs Standing 14', 42lbs standing 17'3"

56lbs spinning 14'6" (only did it in a meet once), 42lbs 20'6" (though I seem to be consistently in the 18 to 19' range)
