Ouch.  She said she will refrain from commenting due to your godfatherness.  I think it just shows how accomodating the local rec center can be.

They had some plates at a booth at the arnold classic that were used for like the magazine shoots and what not.  So the bench had "585" on it and it was really like 200, lol.  I need some of those.  I'm feeling a 900lb. front squat soon.

super sick front...knowing how craigor can grind 'em out there was definitely a good bit left.  definitely curious to see where the zercher stands.

i love the spectators on the video...the guy on the ab machine and the girl walking to the water fountain just dumfounded.  everyone in the rec center is in awe every time craig trains...which is at least twice a month

I swear I stand in awe if I see someone squatting correctly with an empty bar in any gym. There's hardly any weightlifters left. Just geeks grunting on machines.

If I ever see a real weightlifter again in a gym I'm just going to stand there and applaud.

Hey!

Well that is actually true.  We train twice a week.  I personally believe that is optimal.  Anyway, we went about a consistent 6 weeks or so at twice a week and my body was beat up.  So, yes, i need a week off.

ROTF so true!!!  craig had to school some poor kid the other day who was doing some sort of mangled behind the leg deadlift on the smith machine.  we won't even get into his level of disgust with all the little turds who curl in the squat rack.

-------------

Posted By: LarryBrock
Date Posted: 3/26/08 at 2:39am

550 was hard core enough for me...i dont care if you were wearing a squat suit anytime you put more than 225 on the bar and do anything with it I think its hard core.

no, I think Bob meant the straps you are holding on to...which are not the opposite of Hardcore - using them is the opposite of dumb. straps will make the lift safe and spare the ligaments and tendons. I think Coach was joking - as he stresses safety above all.

Craig you should try tying the two ends of 2 pair of straps together, hang each pair by the center knot and then put your hands through the pair of loops that are hanging from the bar - then rotate the hands up into front squat position

Its like a safety front squat - no squeezing the pulp out of the single strap like your doing now. you might even front squat MORE than the disgusting amount your doing now.

Seems complicated.

I dont really squeeze the straps that hard will, the bar just sits on my delts.  On my warmup sets i usually just hold my hands out in front of me with nothing touching the bar.

Awesome job Craig.

this is year 2 for me with fronts...I will be over 5 in a bit.  Still getting used to the choking feeling, now i am starting to like it...  Back squats are a breeze compared to fronts.

**I believe in the straps.  Cannot go squishing your biceps...I think the only way I could get my elbows high enough and and my wrist bent back that way to "really front squat" would to be in a wreck with a semi truck before hand. Then I could contortion my way into that position.

Myles, you know that scar tissue and grissle is the only thing holding us together any how.

I know the question was the heaviest front squats that people have seen, but, without taking anything at all away from Craig's extremely impressive lift, there are at least a few other well-documented results that are not available on youtube.

Jud Logan's PRs in the front squat included a single with 602 and 550x3.

I know Adam Nelson regularly includes front squats in his training and I would assume his max must be very impressive, although I don't know what it is.

Many other very strong throwers, such as Udo Beyer, rarely if ever did front squats.

Leonid Taranenko, World Record Holder in the C&J, used to regularly use 660x3 for front squats in his workouts, but never pushed them beyond that point because he felt he was strong enough (!).  I am sure many of the Heavy and Superheavy O-lifters could front squat 600+, but that is an integral part of what they do.

Shane Hamman regularly did fronts in the 600+ range.

I was waiting for someone to post about Oly lifters rarely front squatting like Peter did.

I'd always heard their fronts were so much more than their cleans there was really no point to it to progress in their sport.

Can we end this thread now?

I mean it was ONLY 550...

Svend had 270 kg on the bar.  I have that training DVD "Viking Power".  They don't show him jump in a river in Norway in the winter for a swim though on that video clip, which is on the DVD.

Just for the record, 270 kg = 595.25 lb.

+1, but I don't think he should try.  Would be more fun to see him put forth efforts to place big at a certain upcoming highland game.
