Alright dudes, anyone interested in going shot for shot with some lifts? Say, the 1st person to a 515lb front squat or a 650 back squat or a 700 deadlift or 275 snatch.

KO? Smith?

You wanna go one on one with the Canadian?

Anyone at all interested in this? Craig and I did it a few years ago with front squats and it was killer motivation. What do you think?

yeah Greg even I think those numbers are a little on the low side....You better do more then that if you want to beat Jason this year.  I guess I could shoot for the 530 front squat.

hell no. Anyone can get in on it.

Here are the rules.

1) You call someone out

2) Set a deadline with said person

3) Perform lift and Film it

4) Put film online so we can verify

What kind of time frame are we looking at here? I'm going to need a few weeks at least.

Where you at on front squats, Craigor?

I'd take the bet on the snatch.

A second hand story with a finishing quote;   Jim "Big Chief" McGoldrick had a QUEST=LIFT of the month and as I understand it you had a month too post your lift .   The particular story that stands out.the lift: PUSH PRESS...ithe weight on the bar had risen too  either 390-lb or 400-lbs and Olympic Hammer thrower Tore Gustuffson walks in too the gym and wonders out loud what the big deal is ???  He is "invited" to jump right in since (according to Tore) "That ain't shit when you put in on your back"...LOL   So of course he pops it right up COLD with no warm up ...

I asked hm a few years later what his P.R. in the lift was before OR after  and he told me " I never did that lift before or since"....that folks is " RETARD STRENGTH !!!!

Lets just say the biggest filmed front squat before January 1?

I haven't gone above 455 this offseason, so i could have a long way to go

Shall we make the bet dinner?

I'd be in for the front squat and snatch, but blew my knee out with a 400lb clean and am squatting PL style now, so no front squatting till I can sit in the hole with no pain.

Yes sir, heavy lifting is dangerous.

Matt,

With awesome lifting numbers like that, what kind of throwing goals do you have for 2008?

Geez I don't know man, those numbers may be a little too big for me. There's no way I'll hit a 315 snatch or 585 front. So I'll have to decline this one.

He'll probably say something coy here.

We seriously have no idea how far Matt can throw.  Everyone who's ever watched him at a HG has marveled at how much he was holding back.  I think he's thinking of changing that, and it should be fun to watch.

Matt,

Could we coax you into participating in the offseason testing challange?  It would be great to see what someone of your strength could do in at least the Standing Broad Jump and the Overhead Shot toss (as well as the 3 jumps tests if you're up to it).  No experience and minimal technique required, just fresh legs and a good warm-up.

And what about you Greg?  Don (to the extent that you are able to)? Anyone else?

Peter,

I'm much better at predicting what I can lift than what I can throw. I haven't touched an implement since September 2005. I'll have a much better idea after I've thrown for a few weeks next Spring - like end of May.

Wayne, my biggest reason for not throwing with a lot of effort was the fear of falling down and making a fool of myself. I don't care anymore.

Mike, it's going to be ugly in 2008. I predict a lot of messy fouls. I may not throw far but I'm going to have a lot of fun. Just keep the small children away from the trig so they don't get squashed.

My first double spin "attempt" ended in blood and humiliation as my wife and kids howled at me laying on the ground wrapped in implement. ...........I don't care anymore either .........Rule  # 1 of this goofy sport = If you're not having fun , go home............# 2 = remember ONLY your good throws........# 3= they give you 3 throws 'cause one might suck....really badly

Matt,

No ideas about the standing WOB or perhaps a 22# Braemar stone put?  The rest I totally understand.  What were your lifts like back in the spring/summer of 2005?  Where are you now in relation to the extremely impressive goals you outlined above?  BTW, how tall are you and how much do you weigh?

Looking forward to meeting you in 2008.

Peter Ingleton.

Peter,

Of these four exercises, I only really back squatted in 2005. I tried snatches a couple of times and deadlifts a couple of times that's all. I haven't front squatted since 1983.

On the Tuesday before the Masters World Chanmpionships I tripled 655 in the back squat.

Yeah, way out of my league.  Bert, what are you aiming for in terms of a front squat, full raw back squat, or something like that over the next few (?) months?

Posted By: MJurkoic

Lifts included back squats, power cleans, shrugs, pull downs, rows, flat benches, incline benches, behind the neck presses, light biceps/triceps. I broke them out on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule.

I am. That's a good goal for me. I took a couple of shots at 180k a couple of weeks ago after doing 160 and 170 pretty easily.  With the 180, I doinked the back of my gigantic gourd on the way up on my first attempt. The second attempt wasn't that close.

Josh...I here you...LOL   The week prior to our Calif State Meet I did 355 x 5 in training. I found myself behind Ramona in the food limne (go fiqure) and her her best lifts.   When she related the 402-lbs I must have said that number 3-4 times.  I tried the 405 as soon as I got home....THANKS to a great woman thrower for motivating me...
