Hello everyone.  My Name is Will and I too am a newbie interested in the heavy events.  I have exchanged e-mails with Dave Cheney and Wayne Hill already about competing in their respective games.  Now I just need to find some people to train with so I don't look like a complete fool.  I live in Natick, Ma. about 20 miles west of Boston.  I appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

Cheers,

Will

Nice! - this will be a great year for rookies in North east this year.

Now, if this damn snow will just go away I can actually throw and not get
beat by all these newbies

I don't think that you need to worry about me beating you Hapy.  I am keeping my goals pretty low for the first year.

Goal number 1: Don't throw Hammer into crowd.

Yeah that is about it.

Hi Will--I'm fairly close to you in Hopkinton.

Not sure if I could be of much help as I'm still fairly a newbie myself (18 months) and a master's woman to boot...

I throw in my smallish backyard--mostly homemade implements--though I have a lw and hammer on order. I'd suggest pestering Wayne for a playdate.    He showed me all the events in a few hours one afternoon and I competed a month later...

do you have any background? and have you been able to hang out at a games and just watch? I guess I'm wondering where you are coming from (from a throwing standpoint)

Playdate....

I think that Al Dergie, myself... Tony R. maybe and a few others will be heading to RI next month. Anyone else?

Will, you are in a great place. Give me a shout about Maine too, you will have some throws under your belt by August...

I have no throwing background but I have been to several games and watched.  I have wanted to participate for several years but always seemed to have one reason or another not to actually do it.  Finally I decided to take Dan John's advice and just do it.  Since you are close I would love to get a chance to pick your brain a bit.  Let me know when you are available and I will get out there.

Thanks for the offer Leroy.  I will definetly take you up on the Maine event, just let me know what you need from me.  I am going to plan on attending the RI games so maybe I can link up with you all down there.

Threw with Dave C. this past weekend and had a blast!  Tons of respect goes out to everyone now that I have been tossed around by the 56.  That thing is brutal!  Now I know what all the "footwork" is all about.  Can't wait for the next practice!
