I have lifted on and off for years and now at 36 I am finally serious about it again.  I have been reading a lot of "Milo" and Olympic Weightlifting books and articles.  I am also very interested in Heavy Athletics.  However, my question is:  How many people have read and applied Ditillo's teachings?  I always thought that growth happened through training with days off, whereas Ditillo advocates training 6-7 days a week and heavy lifting at that.  I though with Heavy lifting, your body needs rest.  What do you all think?  I apologize if this topic has been brought up before.

From the research I've done from Westside, Poliquin, Elite Fitness & T-Nation to name a few training 6 to 7 days a week does not develop into an overtraining situation as long as you adopt the Russian Conjugated System of training. My current training consists of 6 days a week with two training sessions a day not including abs which are done shortly after I get up every day. I started this style after a shoulder injury and haven't had a reoccurrence of shoulder issues yet and I'm lifting more than I was prior to the injury. Hope this helps.

RP...my major differance in opinion with all the
sources that you have quoted is 2-headed.

#1...Drug generated work outs...this is ALL about
having the advantage in recovery cababilities...!

#2...I have debated (in person) with a couple of your
sources ...and I have seen some changes in there
training philsophies or techniques...!

#3 (I lied about the 2-heads... ) Tudor Bompa ( I
might add has Dr. in front of his name... versus
Personal Trainer...GURU...or MASTER BLASTER
"after" thier name) states that is takes the nervous
system 10-days to FULLY recover from a multiple
joint MAX EFFORT !!! I don't see this being factored
in and "if" your a natural strength athlete THIS has to
be addressed !

THANKS for listening ...! mac~

This means everyone has to stop having sex within ten days of a highland games event.   Gee, I am glad my wife doesn't read this stuff.

Coach,

No drugs in this boy!

Hey, I can't even take Advil for a headache without a 15 minute inner conflict debate.

The other thing one must realize is that everyone reacts differently to training regiments. For me a 6 day recovery from Max Effort days seems to work very well. Someone just starting to lift or coming off of an extended layoff will always need to work into their GPP slowly.

Learning to listen to what your body is telling you and being able to adjust in the appropriate manner and finding what works best for your particular body type is the key.

Respectfully,

Angus Billy Scruggs sent me an email from his frozen fastness in upper Colorado and told me to "give it a rest."

i asume he meant to let my old tattered plaid joints heal up over the winter. and stop complaining.

i had been bragging on the measly weights i am using in my excuse-for-a-workout; apparently he was not impressed. even the stone lifting i am doing made no scratch.

what i mean is the off season is just that, off. my old nervous system can only "get up" a few times a year. this means that the off season is the time for storing up the power and the season is the time for spending it.

easier said than done.

Anthony used to write in Iron Man, when it was a real magazine for lifters and Mr. Rader owned it.  Heavy, basics, and partials I remember.
