I'm looking to give some throwing a try once the ground is covered in something other then ice. I have never thrown before and am looking for any advice on changing my lifting routine to be better prepared. Currently I lift 4 days a week with some KB or bodyweight stuff on off days for recovery and some added work capacity, nothing insane. Any suggestion?

Best lifts to date:

Squat: 350

DL: 390 (405 should go next time I try it)

OH: 175 (on-going fight here)

PC: 185

BW 195 at 5'6"

Thanks

Nic

I'd really focus on legs/core/back. I trained real hard before my first season and got a strong upper body and tried using my upper half to throw everything, having my rotator cuff go to crap has forced me to really rethink technique and leg drive. You're better off having seriously overpowering legs, and a weak upper body, like one of those track bike racers. Just my opinion, I'm in my second off season, have only thrown one season so not alot of experience. Plyometrics, squats, repeat.

Thanks, have been reading all the threads on the board but figured it was worth asking in a seperate post for any added advice.

Balance is always better..just for the help in avoiding injuries..But you can concentrate on squatting as that does help to develop the entire body..Stonelifting,sandbag and any other odd objects will help in developing your stabilizer muscles..Which in turn will help your throwing, because your stabilizers establish functional strength...Strength from all angles...Which completes the circle, because that aids in the reduction of injuries..
