Pulled my bicep doing LWFD....It's a reoccurring injury but I've never done it where it turned all black and purple like this time. It's definitely not separated but there is some kind of minor tearing in there. Anyway, I'm thinking about how to prevent it from EVER happening again or getting any worse. Maybe a tight elbow sleeve while throwing and or wrapping it to totally immobilize it.  It could partially have something to do with the muscle being overdeveloped. I in no way have small arms...

That's not a pull. If it bruised, it's torn. Go see someone about that.

As so how to prevent it from happening during the weights, don't muscle them around. The arms are chains. If there's stress on the bicep, you're pulling the weight in and around with the arm. Gotta relax the arm. This is why the hook grip is nice.

Wrapping it up won't prevent tearing.
I suggest you let it heal completely before throwing, then implement Sean's advice.
As a member of the "Half-Bicep Club of NA" I am pretty familiar with this.

I've thrown a week after a partial bicep tear. Weights were fine. Stones= Le Suck

partial tear will become full tear if you start throwing too hard too soon

Stylish. You gotta really bust ass to blow out a tricep.

The only way not to get hurt for sure in this sport is to watch it from the other side of the rope.

Yeah more a question of "when" rather than "if", but in my mind there's no point in making a minor injury a major one if it can be avoided.

Especially when it comes to practice/training. In competition is a whole 'nother thing; again to me. YMMV.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give it a chance to fully heal and come back stronger than ever. Being positive....

Staying positive can be hard- injuries are bulls**t.
But never doubt that you can, absolutely, come back stronger.

Thanks Jeff. Problem is I'm just itching to lift and throw, but it's ganna have to wait a bit. The Monterey Games are coming up and I'm already registered....I'm ganna have to be a spectator this time...

I'm with Sean, Definitely go with a hook grip to prevent this injury! Not only does it relax the bicep a little more, it also gives you an extra inch or two of length when throwing. Also refrain from Jerky movements. The light weight is much faster but it also has to be a smooth motion all through the throw. Any time I've ever seen someone pull a bicep on the light weight it was because they were snapping against the weight. Just a thought.
