I am trying to help our head strength coach get a concrete understanding of the utilization of Tendo Units. I was told that many of the Scottish Games athletes use these types of devices so I was hoping to find some information on here. My question is depending if you are in a maximal effort, strength effort, dynamic effort or repetition effort, do you have certain velocities you try hit? Obviously ME is going to be of a slower velocity then a RE, but I was just wondering if anyone has developed some sort of velocity range for each type of effort?

Thanks, Brent Mitchell

You need to talk to John Gallagher or Burt Sorin. They are the most educated about the subject. Just PM them.

dynamically I keep to the following
snatches 1.7 meters a second
cleans 1.5 meters per second
presses with band or chain .8 m/s if using Westside type DE training
squats .6 m/s

for other work on cleans and presses I will use the power output instead of speed to concentrate on getting more horsepower and create intent

example would be yesterday I did cleans off blocks and used the tendo to give me the weight to use like I would for speed work but instead as I raised the weight I increased the wattage I put out.  As long as I could create more wattage I increased the weight until I hit a point where even though I could finish the lift the resultant power produced was less.  For that exercises (for me) it is about 70% of my max.  Technique issues aside..this would show that for highland games work i should work I need to work on my speed at the lower weights as i would think this should be accomplished at a lower weight.  If the % at which I reached the max wattage output was lower... I would spend more time on Max effort type work.
