I tend to get bad lower back pain after sitting for long periods (over christmas for example) or when doing alot of driving or on long haul flights. I have also gone from having a workshop/office based job to a completely office based job so am now sitting for long priods at a time every day, I try to get up throughout the day and strech my legs.
 
I make a point of warming up properly before training and cool down after and do alot of core work  but it seems to me as its when I'm not doing anything at all that the issue.
 
Does anybody have any specific exercises for dealing with this or tips on posture etc?

Find a few stretches that you can do to loosen the lower back, hamstrings and glutes. Not sure on the appropriate names but... I do a one leg childs pose type stretch (both sides), then i lie on my back and try to extend my leg at a 90 degree angle (do reps like a leg extension), and then a pretzel stretch for the glutes.
 
I do these daily. It makes a huge difference. Also with all of the sitting you do, or anyone for that matter, look into an inversion table. I'm not sure what the Nasga Forum consensus is but i swear by mine.
