Ok,
After many many years of chiros and lower back pain I am starting to get an inkling (?) of what might be going on. Not sure why I didn't put this together sooner, but well, maybe I'm slow.
Just about every time I go to chiro they check my feet. They always find something off with my left foot and yank on my leg. It gives relief and they always seem to be happy and move onto something else.
New chiro last night explained to me what he thinks is happening. I don't necessarily have a short leg, but he thinks my hip joint is rotating a bit and locking into place at the wrong angle in the socket. This is limiting mobility and also causing the left leg to look shorter. He showed me the wear on my shoes was uneven as supporting evidence.
Now, I have always known when I was deep in a squat, in front of a mirror, that I would have to force my hips over a bit to make the angles of my knees to thighs equal on each side....and there you go! I may actually have a structural issue here.
So...how do I deal with this? How to I get my hip to 1) Unlock before I lift without a chiro, 2) Strengthen whatever to keep my hip from locking? This would be absolutely great to work out and see if I can get back in the strength quest again. ------------- --------- I have very few social interaction skills, so I just throw stuff instead. |

| A few years back I had similar issue. I was confusing my low back pain when the issue was my hip. My low back would hurt after squats but not after DLs. Long story short I had hip surgery. My family has bad hips genetically, my dad has hip replacement and never lifted weights or competed in HG. Doc told me I will not go to the grave with the hips the good Lord gave me. |

| Orthotics are a stopgap generally. There's really no such thing as "having one leg shorter than the other". It's a hip alignment thing primarily. |

| I must be one in a million then. My leg is shorter due to scoliosis so I need a 1/2" to 1" lift to compensate. |

Yeah, my leg only looks short before the adjustment. After adjustment the chiros say I am fine. Don't want to treat the symptom, rather the issue itself. ------------- --------- I have very few social interaction skills, so I just throw stuff instead. |

And I would imagine your hips are out of line by about 1/2" to 1" due to scoliosis. Scoliosis is no joke.
The human body is remarkably balanced. It's literally in our DNA. Its usually only major injury or disease that compromises that.

| Improve your core and use art which will help a lot, I have something similar which I just manage and still lift huge!! |

Have you found any fixes for your situation? I don't know a lot about hips, but I know goblet squats help mine a lot focusing on feeling your elbows and forearms pushing along the insides of your knees/calves/thighs. Hip mobility drills between squat sets are awesome as well. Good luck. |

I get the same thing re:squats vs deadlifts. I get a very tight left IP and the low back pain that comes with it. I stretch the shit out of it but it only offers moderate relief. I also get pain along the front of my ilium and tenderness along the groin with tightness deep in the thigh. Tightness also at the top of the quad. Since I've been working on my glutes more it has helped reduce the frequency of flareups. I still need to see a ortho about it. I'm sure it's a more complicated issue than it seems.

No solution found yet, mostly because winter shut down my home gym building plans. And my stubborness will not give money to a gym that doesn't like me. But I know that hip/illiac still move out of place.
I have also since competely stopped sitting on my wallet. Makes it difficult to keep track of the wallet, but hoping it is part of the solution. ------------- --------- I have very few social interaction skills, so I just throw stuff instead. |
