Turns look pretty good, but you would have fouled out on the left side. I think your right foot needs to replace your left a lot closer. Chalk out a box and practice throwing in it and are comfortable.

Thanks, Al. There's GOTTA be something else wrong cuz that thing is only hitting about 50 feet.
Lower? Faster? SOMETHING! Lemme have it.
Cheers!

Yes, you need to get lower and tighter especially on your first turn.
The tempo should go from slow to fast, plus a big lift at the end. Your turns are all the same speed and size.
Get up on the balls of your feet and bend more at the knees and waist.

There we go.
"Lower" I understand. I spent most of the day working on lower and had some better throws. When I get low and can rise on the second turn I get better distance.
"Tighter" I don't understand.
Don't understand the waist comment either. Are you looking for rotation at waist or??
Thanks!

"Tighter" nevermind - I think you're talking about foot placement - same as Al.
Put that right foot down on tighter - in place of the left.
I can be kinda dense.

One more thing to try would be to lessen the angle of the weight during your rotations then pull up hard on the end. The weight is well above your head. Its tuff to keep a tight quick rotation with the weight so high.

It really just depends on what works for you but i'm usually looking to keep it somewhere betwern my chest and eyes. I played around with a higher trajectory but it really messed me up. I feel tighter and quicker with a slightly lower trajectory. Just my personal preference. Wouldn't hurt to try it.

Waist comment was about getting lower. You are very upright throughout the whole throw. Bend your knees to get lower and bend at the waist to increase the circumference of your cast.
I will see if I can find some pics to illustrate.

You and I throw a lot alike. Except that you got here in about 4 months, where it took me 4+ YEARS.
At 50-something, sending the 28 footer over 50 feet puts you in the top ten in that event in our age class. You are doing ruddy *great*.
That said, here's a drill for you, to help with "tightening up" the back half.
Go out on the grass with a little piece of paper, like a post-it or something and your weight. Put the paper on the ground. Put your left foot on it. Now, get all set up, and do your first turn. Reverse your feet and dump the weight into the ground behind you. STOP Are you perfectly balanced? Can you STOP and hold that position for five long seconds? Now, can you do that five times in a row?
STOP. Look down. Is your right foot now on top of the piece of paper that your left foot started out, on top of? yes? Can you do it again? Can you do it five times in a row?
To do that, you will probably have to slow it down....not a problem. If you hit that position, strong, with about 60% of your weight on your BACK foot, you are in the perfect position to charge to the front of the trig, get your feet down SUPER fast again
like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JGpCUzHw1w" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JGpCUzHw1w
... and launch a....fifty FIVE foot throw. And I will be jealous as hell but will still buy you a beer, afterwards! If you keep this up you will be pushing 60 feet, end of next year. Seriously. You are going to make Brett Milton sit up and take notice. ....Heh.

You're also casting a little high. You'n me brother.
Try to do your rhythm swings, then really drop your hips. Like...crazy drop the hips. Let the weight swing back AND UP A LITTLE BIT...and then pull it low and wide. BIG arc.
wait, wait waaaaaaiiiiiitttttt....for it, until the last second and then BAM switch your feet. Hit the power position, pull the weight forward. BAM move your feet up to the trig. Get under the weight...
Now pull like bloody hell, hips in front and finish with a big lift and chest up.

I think you need to finish stronger. It looks like you are satisfied with your efforts at the end and just relax the throw out to the sector. Accelerate through your block, finish faster than at any other point in your throw. Focus on your left side and get it correct, your right side will follow.

Ok. Thanks gang!
Chose to work on lowering first cast, "slowing" first turn and transitioning slow to fast from there.
Result, averages climbed to 52 foot from 49, and max jumped from 52 to 54.6"
Will continue working these elements for a couple weeks and then post another video.
I greatly appreciate the help. I do most of this solo, so the feedback from the community is invaluable.

Ok. This is probably the next thing I'll work on after I learn to get the first cast right...
(Yes, the first cast continues to be too high...)
But, watch the right foot do a heal pivot at the end of sprint (about 12 seconds in).
I think I need to learn to land on, and pivot on, the ball of my foot, but I'm not quite sure if that's a movement thing, or a landing position thing, or a "not getting the first movements right" thing. What's rotten is I do the same thing in stone - I come off the heal, rather than whip the leg around and use the toe. Gotta go watch some Stewart and Vierra vids.

Question for the experts...in the vid above Greg is already turning his body before the cast has even started. In my head, and the way I coach others is to get the cast out to the side and let it pull you into turning around.
Thoughts?

Ok. I've watched a video of matt vincent about 600 times and I think I know what you're talking about. When he brings his cast around, he is facing the throwing area up to the point where the weight comes in line with his hips...
And it does look like he allows the weight to start the movement, because his shoulder begins to close...
... but then he turns and outruns it.
Hope to hell he doesn't take offense of deep study of his youtube vids: http://youtu.be/S2pA4y1GM-w
Is that what you're talking about?

That's what I believe he's talking about, and yes, being more patient and waiting on it is what you want. I used to think about waiting until the weight was about 1 o'clock - 12 o'clock before going.
Important note!!: This does not mean wait with EVERYTHING, it just means you are waiting to replace your feet. You will be up on your left toe and that will rotate. You can easily see this in the screen shots posted above.

Yes that is what I was trying to say. HA...pictures work better. This way the weight takes a much more natural orbit from the start and you aren't working against it. Turning too early will pull the weight into a funky place that will just mess up the timing of your feet for the rest of the throw.

Ok. Great. I'll work on that...
Now, about that heal pivot at 12 seconds... Got any ideas how to temper that? Is it because I'm not getting my left foot planted fast enough so I transition too much weight onto my right foot and end up traveling all the way to heal before I'm able to turn? (I.e. not rotating hips quickly enough in the second turn?)
In frame by frames, Matt has both feet down while I'm still on one foot. But, I'm only seeing the one angle.
