Here's what I made for my nephew in about 2 hours, when we were down there for Christmas. I did have access to their drill press, it made drilling the holes in the plumbing riser that serves as the grip in the handle, a lot easier.  However, I could've drilled it by hand, if I'd had to, and I had a vise to hold the pipe.

It'll go easier if you use a high-quality drill bit.

You'll have to really torque the eye bolt to get it on the 3/8 end of the reducer.  The threads don't match.  Be generous with epoxy to hold it in there.   In my experience, in time, 1/4 inch non-welded or cast eye bolts slowly open up when used for this. However, the 3/8's eye bolts last a long, long time.

Oops, I messed up.... the handle is actually made from 1/2 inch plumbing riser, over the U bolt..... not 3/4 inch.  The pipe that the weights are on, is 3/4 inch.
