I've been wanting to do this for awhile now, but was waiting on the software upgrade.

I will keep the top 5 in each lift.  We will start with the basic lifts that we all do, and can add other categories (rower times, jumps, pullups, etc...) if there is interest.

The board starts today, December 15, 2011.  I don't care what you did yesterday, last week, or last year.

You can either post the submission in this thread or keep it in your log, or both.

You must have a video of the lift.  It's 2011, it's not that difficult.

I prefer the people submitting have a log on the board.  It's not a requirement, but people that aren't really involved in the board or just spam here probably won't be considered.

Judging (this will be updated as/if needed):

Quote Regarding the Squat Category:

I will typically use the 'water test' when judging all squats.

If there was water on your thigh:

1.  It rolls toward your hips - good lift.
2.  It doesn't roll either way - borderline, but we'll count it.
3.  It rolls toward your knees - no lift.

Quote Regarding the Press Category:

The lift will NOT count if there there is any knee bend prior to the start of the lift.

I repeat, your knees MUST BE LOCKED.

From the chest/clavicle to overhead with no additional momentum builder.

I don't care if you don't think it helped you, it probably did.  If it didn't, you wouldn't do it.

Quote Regarding the Bench Category:

Butt must stay on the bench.

Bar must touch your chest.

Bar must be locked out.

DAMN THIS WHITE BOARD!!!!!!!

My new training block starts next week with ME squat on monday and ME bench on tuesday. My plans were to squat against strong bands and close grip against monster mini bands.. I realize I have a very small window to get on this board before the real strong guys start posting vids up. I have a dilemma. Continue as planned, or shoot for the white board.

The bro in me wants to shoot for the white board.
The athlete in me wants to continue as planned.

455 + choked strong bands. good enough for the whiteboard? I'm sure I'l be booted within a week by someone's straight weight 600+, but I'm happy with the banded PR and I felt very explosive out of the hole.

I was thinking about how the reps or band weight vs straight weight works for the board.  My suggestion is more weight always trumps less weight.  So even if you do 500 x 3 with bands and someone else hits 505 then lifted more actual weight.

Craig thoughts?  Since this is your baby.

i agree..

imo..

465 straight weight > 455 + bands > 405x10 straight weight..

as far as the board is considered.. that is the very reason I said that my squat isn't going to last very long. also, you'll see a guys 365 bench trumped hadleys 350x5, so I think that's craigs position too.

For those of you who don't use bands, this is tough.

Also with a rack that is like that the stretch out at an angle is something you need to be prepared for other wise you will pay when it throws you backwards.  Good work Jake.

Since I'm getting knocked out of the deadlift Top 5 on Tuesday Cry ....I'll try to sneak in the Bench Top 5 for a few days...

Here's today's PR vid...305. BTW, to put this in perspective, I tested my 5-rep max in May 2010, when I started lifting and it was 205. So I've added 100 pounds to my bench in 19 months...I'm pretty damn pleased with that.

Unfortunately I still weigh exactly the same, 215. I'm gonna go eat...

And I know its hard to see from this angle with the baggy shorts, but yes, my ass does stay in contact with the bench, even when my foot slips...

I am stoked to see the enthusiasm toward this....once some time has passed and we can see what numbers will be the real top 5s I think this will be a very respectable board of lifters.  I am happy to be part of this community.

even more respectable is that we all spend time throwing(except Craig), so it's not just about the lifting.

This is something that I and several other Pros have discussed numerous times.  We essentially only get to lift for strength 5-6 months out of the year due to our competition schedules.  And some of that time is then spent recovering what we lost in strength during the season, so it doesn't leave a whole lot of time to be just big and strong.  That being said we've (Highland Games athletes) still managed to put up some decent weights, albeit nothing that is blowing anyone's mind.  I know for me personally, if I could have lifted year round for the past 13 years instead of half the time due to games, I'd be a hell of a lot stronger than I currently am.

It's a trade off, but one that I continue to make year after year.

I feel ya. I keep contemplating giving up on everything but Powerlifting, but I never do. Powerlifting is fun in its own right, but it just doesn't feed the athlete in me what it needs. So, I'll continue throwing, lifting, rugby and strongman and let the pieces fall where they may

Great work Shawn!  I was thinking of adding the same caveat (I am 45), but then Mike Nease comes along and, well... Ouch.  At least I could qualify as a Middleweight!

Ya, Mike Nease has ensured that there will never be an old guy division.

Not that there were going to be any divisions anyway!

I know the feeling. I've got a strongman competition coming up Jan 21st. I plan on doing a PL meet and an OL meet next year as well.. In addition to my 8-10 games. The only reason I can get away with this is because I'm not out there doing 15+ games/year. At some point I'll have to set my priorities but for now, I'm able to get away with it.

hmmm...I think no.  Gotta be full ROM and an axle sorta changes that.  Barbell only.

And for a press... any dip even the slightest, makes it a push press, Correct?

Correct.

Knee bend for drive = push press.

I may just remove that category.

If there isn't 5 people really doing that lift, then there isn't much need for a whiteboard for it.

Deleted.

If there is a big interest we can add it back, or any other lifts that people may get into.
