10/1-Lets try this again post shoulder replacement 7 months @ 245 lbs .......... 


Clean Pull 15x2 @ 115 nice an easy for awhile on these before I pick the up the speed and add 200 plus lbs.


German Volume Squat Routine10x10 at 150 45 sec recovery ( need to get three days in a week )


Super Set: back hyper w/40 lb chains 3x10 and ab wheel 3x10


KB swing w/96 3x10

I am using the 10 sets on my upper body also, so I am only hitting the squat once a week.  It destroyed me.  Made me super sore, I am still sore.  I like it and am going to try and keep this up for a few weeks.  Does it hit you the same way?  Calling you in the AM.

Myles-My left knee blew up on me 48 hrs after the 10x10 Sun.  Not sore yet with the little wts. Going to try again this Sun, 10x10 w/185 1 min rest. Once I get into the 225 plus range (SSB Squat) the work will start and the soreness.

"Be prepared to start over" took a very long break to do it right. Did a boot camp meets hg thrower x6 per week over the past 2.5 months. This included boxing, long sled pull sessions, in the pool, some grappling with the boy, chopping, hiking with 20 vest, diesel crew shoulder rehab every day, ab wheel and med ball sessions, and 1 cross fit class per week. Love the cross fit folks but they need to go a little heavier. The goal was to do a throwing test 1/1/12 and make a decision. Did it yesterday -some light ( 19.5 ) br stone polish style 50% x10 25'-28' no pain, 25 lb short wt for dist 1 turn 50% x6 maybe 50' and 30 lb hammer winds with ball and chain-no release. Had my first real lifting session in several weeks today. Andy Bolton, John Smith and Ulf Timmerman meet in bar in Finland to discuss training. Combination of bar speed ( Smith ), deadlift focus ( Bolton ) , volume (Timmerman) focus on the deadlift ( Finland ). Pull/Back, Squat/legs, Upper Body-3 on 4 off. Squat day will be fast day coupled with a variety uni-lateral work- never heavy.
 
Week A Wk1
Sat Back/Pull Day Snatch Grip Hi Pull 5x6 @ 135, Clean Grip Hi Pull from knees 3x3 @ 175, semi bent knee stiff legs from 4" box 3x10 @ 185, pull ups on slant board 5x5, 10 second bent rows holds @ 95 x10 30 second recovery, and swinging seated db hammer curls 3x8 w/ 40's

Thanks Gene- maybe RI/SC ? The son at 13 is doing some damage on the judo mat. He's been training w/ some o-lifters at the Boston Barbell Club close to me. Some good young talent, like to see them stay with it for the long term. Getting caught up: See your entering the t&f coaching ranks -good for you. See if you can secure some old " come to shot put/discus practice by Rob Lasorsa, National Throws Development Coach ( ? currently ) Perform Better must have them.These are very basic and teach a very simple yet sound progression for small groups.  I spoke to him a fews years ago he's still active in the scene and a good contact. Art and I both go way back with him.

Thanks Shawn, shouder much to my surprise is feeling good. Had no idea I'd get to this point. Hours and hours of rehab and the Myles head tune ups are paying off. Fast lifts should come back quickly -315 power clean is a goal no snatches. Got some work to do, squat and dead.

I hear ya Myles good looking out. End of Dec. switch went off eat sleep throw lift . It's been years since I've no pain in the right shoulder. Light stone will be the key but the boxing should get the pop back . Doing the lift to throw template J, Smith Throws Coach from S. ILL .

Sun 1/29 spent the early am in the er after taking a header in the drive way X-ray neg hip pelvis and the coconut nice quad strain - some Motrin and flexaril and I was on my way. Josh P in the house- we did the same routine.

Standing 1 arm 20 med ball releases for ht x 10 ( over back board) essentially a foul shot -walked a few off 22'-24' I was super setting these w/ standing 1 arm Db pp w/25 lb x20 x5 sets. Some prep work for the breamer. No trunk rotation all about arm strike- speed coming back .

90 min bootcamp- 1 min bouts for 60 mins 15 min warm up/ 15 cooldown. Includes; battling ropes, various bands, kettle bells, boxing skills, med ball, ground base , core work, plyos, on and on. Strange addiction to this type of training love hate type addiction. Will it help ? Thus far in concert with lift to throw routine, it 's a good mix. Feeling very fast, fit and tight in the core. Bottom line is I have to do it. Will up the bootcamp sessions to 2 x per week through april .

Don,

Is this "bootcamp"  a type of "class" or your own workout session?  More imprtantly, is the emphasis (at this point) on speed and power etc, or conditioning, more specifically aerobic/metabolic conditioning?

I like that stuff too, although I mostly only do it outside in the good weather, and I call it "Strongman Conditioning".  I go for in during each round but tend not to push to pace too much so I can emphasize power/quality vs. redlining it.

Pete, these a classes at local gym. Emphasis is high energy 1-3 min intervals,30
second to 1 min recovery. The legs, core , back are loaded for most of the movements. So structurally I see the carry over to hg - flexion in lower body, core engaged , upper and lower back fixed with rotational work incorporated. The instructor throw in some strict curls , tricep ext for a break and additional recovery. Good compliment to the lift throw routine I'm doing ( my version any way ). Just need to eat,sleep and monitor. Shoulder holding up to this type of training. Gonna back off the throwing a bit got be patient.

Mike, have always done with Db's-incline release. No don't tuck the shot just balance them over shoulder hands under -good to build arm strike.. Saw some young soviet throwers doing these in 79'

Love the boot camp x2 fat drunk and stupid is no way go through life Stewart. Baab's Boot Camp- they'll be pouring in. Big in LA

Thanks for the support men. Long way to go. Gene, could do a weekend @ Paul's if the home of the Giant Calzone is still open. Still one of my top ten hg dinners of all time w/Paul and company. Directions: out of Paul's front door take a right , about a 1/2 mile on the left if I recall. Worth the trip boys.

I'm on board guys!Don, moved out in the burbs but LaBellas is only 3mi away ! Plus just a mile way or so is a plethora of eating establishments and Geno there's always the buffet we hit before the classic! Fully equipped weightroom and places to throw......

Double session legs tomorrow. Love the weekends all family members required to train. Wife will bike and walk not really training but she's beautiful and can cook .

Some easy bike 30 min and yogurt stretching.
20 lb med ball standing no torque/rotation x 10 @ 28 -30'
14 lb ball and chain hammer 40" x 10 @ 90' tricky building up the speed with this thing low and high pt all over the place. Should make the PVC easy manage.

Been consulting with team over the hill regarding my shoulder/s. My left shoulder was recently x-ray'd and MRI'd - not good result. Yes you guessed correct shoulder replacement likely. Short term cortisone may give me 6 months. Competive shot putter , judo player and hg from 38 -53 bad combo apparently. Added bonus on the left was a torn rotator . I'm gonna run the old straight 6 into the ground I've decided. My wife I think is planning an intervention, my doc just put his down and Myles ,the only voice reason suggested the cortisone and more rest. The only strange peice to this drama is I'm not in much pain - Doc puzzled as I'm real close to bone on bone.

Thanks Men ! Didn't anticipate this had some signs that things weren't 100 % with the left . The voice in my head was telling me not to ignore this time. I was having issues with my right shoulder 15 years ago and kept pushing. I've had some good offers to coach some very hi level throwers ( 1 who has qualified for12' not an American) may explore those opportunities. Nice day up in Boston got lift and throw later.

1 hour yoga early am

Throws: 16 stone x 8 easy standing @ 40 ish, 180 pivot drill w/ 14 lb shot x 8 @ 45' no reverse, 53 lb kettlebell x 6 1 turn @ 28'-30' , short 26.5 1 turn wt for distance x 6 @ 55'-60' Nice day in Boston made the most of it. Every thing off pavement btw- feeling very fast. Need to get some up and down with the Wts still.

All kinds of throw drills: took 10 light wt for distance 2 turn pretty easy run up 65' got tech work to do twist and lift feels very strong very flat plane through out . This was the short 26.5 lb.off pavement. All the core work paying off wasn't pulling on it . Back to the grind tomorrow am yoga pm boot camp .

WOB x10 @ 17'6"-not much drop on these more of test for the shoulder. Just testing my vertical power right there IMO went 0 for 9 made an actual clearance in the tenth. " y spin when you can do it standing "

ClapExclamation  17'6"    Holy frijoles.  I'm gunning for 14.

Hmmm..  you are definitely  significantly stronger than I am but not completely outrageously stupidly that much stronger.   (though that 500+ deadlift might suggest otherwise) ..  So what's the difference, here?

Seriously. I'm totally serious. What are your thoughts on that question? Speed?  Something about the central nervous system?  Years of experience?  Technique?

Alan, his throw is down to 17'6, he threw the thing 20 feet and threw the 56 17 feet, and has been throwing since being a teen.  He threw the 56 forty feet at the age of 50.  My thoughts are your comparing yourself to one of the premier athletes of his age ever.  Like you just walked up to Nolan Ryan and asked why your fastball is not like his, your about the same height.

he's deaded and squatted 800 kinda stuff and thrown 40 and 80 and 17/20.6.
 
He decides to dead wtf for fun and beats my best ever by 25lbs and sat down, sighed and said"eh" because he has done so much more.....before.
 I am putting everything into this MWC because he's off form and recovering and will come in 75% - I am hoping my 100% can fight w his 75%.
