Hey folks, it's time to ask for some help. I saw someone do a spin for the sheaf toss and thought I would try it out, but I was hoping you could look at it and tell me what I should work on. the links are below.

The Burchett's have started swinging the sheaf at the bar so it is no longer a full turn.i have a video I will ask permission to post it on youtube.

You are pulling the bag back, not up. Watch your right shoulder...see how it shrugs up to your right ear?

I think it's best to have the fundamentals of a standing sheaf toss down before attempting to spin.
Which one currently goes higher for you?

well, the first video was about the same height as my standing throw, about 14 or 15 feet.

My suggestion would be to actually throw over a bar, as accuracy will also come into play when deciding what technique to use.
As stated before though, I think it's best to have the fundamentals of a standing sheaf toss down before attempting to spin.

well I've used the standing form in competition before, and I've been practicing it since January. maybe if I put on a video of the standing you could tell me what I should work on before advancing to the spin?

Sure. There are several other threads with sheaf critique, as well.

I'm no sheaf gawd but we can take some time at the claw and see
what we can iron out. Echoing what Craig said...fundamentals.

No worries Bro. We start with the sheaf so I'll be in that gear anyway.
Truly, I think you should skip the spin this weekend. I say this
because after watching the vids again...none of your throws were the
same.
In a big game consistency counts. Be the steady hand.g

Oh no, I don't dare try it in competition yet. I'm still not sure about it in practice.

I don't know where you are in your season in regards to training but hang or ballistic snatches in the gym will help your fundamentals with the standing technique. Make sure your core is strong so you can transfer the power from your legs into the sheaf. If you think your core is already strong, do a little more work just to be sure

Little more back swing then push down with your left and
pull with the right to accelerate your downswing. At the
bottom of the arc or checkmark you change direction and
drive up with the legs continue to push/pull with your arms
and violently snap the bag off.

One thing at a time. Get accustomed to using your legs first until it's second nature, then move on to other things.

Practice with uprights and crossbar. Seriously. If you throw it fifty feet in the air, but can't get it between the uprights, it don't mean a thing. One vital thing you'll figure out by setting up some sort of standards, is where to stand, and how to angle your stance in regards to the bar. That sounds silly, but man oh man, KNOWING that every throw should go right smack through the middle relieves your mind from worrying about it, and you can focus on UP.

Something I do that helps...well, helps me:
I throw in a smaller area...like a parking space. Maybe 8-9 feet across. I start at the far end and try to toss the bag so it lands inside that spot. I have a line drawn about 3 feet into the parking spot as my "crossbar," and get a buddy to tell me where the bag peaks in relation to that line.
I totally stole this from Mike Baab, by the way.
I figure if I can consistently throw the bag UP instead of HARD and make it through a smaller "window," I'm good to go when I have to throw in a larger space.

that sounds like a pretty good idea. I've pretty much found the spot where I throw. I've found it peaks to paces behind, two paces two my left. I practice at a park with a really high baseball back-wall. I climb up and put a colorful tie up, and aim for that.
