So we were sitting around doing manly things, and it occurred to myself and the Warriors Three that there really are no Women's Team Games on the books. Certainly, there are co-ed teams every once in a month of blue moons, but we didn't come across any in our cursory search of the Interwebz. Let's do something about that...
In any case, the North Texas Heavies will be holding the inaugural Women's Highland Team Challenge this Fall, and we invite any and all Lady Gamers to attend. We will contest all 9 events, as well as some challenge events.
The loot for the winners: Will. Be. Epic. (No one has this stuff on their trophy case!!!) Oh yeah, winning team get's their bar tab paid.
Y'all drop me an email at mailto:duncan.mccallum01@gmail.com - duncan.mccallum01@gmail.com if interested, and we'll get entry forms and things out just as quickly as we can.

Ladies,
We are hard at work down here in the Lonestar State getting things in motion...exciting times! We have discovered a new metal that, when formed into a LWFD and HWFD (within regulations) is almost guaranteed to make for record throws on our flat field. Come on out and get your name in the book!
Things are moving right along, and I have come to the point where I need to ask a question:
Challenge events...what do y'all feel like doing? Hit me with suggestions and ideas!
So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive, and I hope to see as many of y'all down there as possible. Bring your laddies as well...Celtober will be held that Sunday, so they will get a chance to throw as well...if they survive Saturday night.

For a challenge event think about a farmer's walk with two heavy, weighted western saddles. You have to lift them up, so they don't drag on the ground. Karyn, you want to lift and carry a Dallas Cowboy, but have you thought about a team marathon massage challenge of the Dallas Cowboys. Each athlete would be assigned a Dallas Cowboy to massage at the end of the competition. Whoever has the stamina to massage the longest would win. I'm sure you could get alot of the football players to volunteer, and they might even want to be a sponsor, a naming sponsor.

Ok y'all. Here is how we are going to set teams up:
1. I am going to wait until I have all the entries by the date listed on the application form. Once I have those in my hand, I will post a complete list of all entrants on this thread. It is critical y'all get those entries in to me before that date; if something comes up and you aren't sure, drop me a note or an email and let me know...we'll work it out.
2. Once I have everyone's info, I am going to use the NASGA Database to rank the applicants; basically, your rank on the Database will be your rank for the porpoises of this event.
3. Here is where it gets tricky; once I have the total number of applicants (let's say 30) I will know how many teams of 5 to create...in this case, it would be six teams. The top 6 ranked athletes would be considered "Captains" for this event. The highest ranked athlete would be the Captain of Team 1; she would then pick up the 12th ranked athlete. The second-highest ranked athlete, Captain 2, would pick up the 11th ranked athlete. The third-highest ranked athlete, Captain 3, would pick up the 10th ranked athlete, etc., until the first "round" of athletes has been assigned. At that point, we flip the scrip and the Captain of Team 1 would take the 13th ranked athlete, the Captain of Team 2 would take the 14th, etc.
4. If we get an odd number of entrants we're just going to have to put on our thinking caps and get it straightened out. But we'll make it work. You have my word.
By getting these things set up earlier, y'all can bounce ideas for Team Names/Entrance themes (awesome)/Shirt color/etc.
Again, email me or call me if you have any concerns of any kind. I know this might seem a little unorthodox, but I think this is the best we can do in the interests of sportspersonship. It makes for a more even distribution of the athletes. This way, every throw matters. Everyone on the team has to show up for their Team and throw big. I know y'all will.

And the hits just keep on coming...
There will be 3 Johnny Irvin Specials, the Chuck Taylors of sheaf forks, up for grabs this year as well. These are good forks. Really good forks...and you know I'd tell you if they weren't.
I spoke with Irv about it, and he will be in fork-making mode for the Challenge. If any of y'all are needing forks, drop me a note and I will pass it on to him...pick up your fork at the Game. Two tines or three, stick length, and tape color...that's all I need to know.
Got a question in my inbox today: "Will we field Master's Women teams?" My answer: Yes. We will...but wouldn't they be Mistresses? Dominas? In any case, we can certainly do that, and will score these teams separately. If there aren't enough Ladies to make at least two teams this way, the participants will be placed with other teams per the system mentioned earlier.

All this talk of the great food is making me really hungry, and very determined to get into competition shape for a masters team. My doctors are making me be a vegetarian, and it's driving me nuts. I want cheese and meat, espcially lamb and more lamb. I do cheat with pepperoni pizza, though. When will the food be served? Do we get to start eating it Saturday morning before competing? Will we get to nibble on it all day long, or do we have to wait for lunch? I'm really looking forward to the food, as I need a good meal. Beth (drooling)

Duncan,
Re: extra throwers/uneaven team sizes
Talking this over the husband we came up with a good idea for unbalanced numbers.
If there is a team with one member more, (lets say 6 instead of 5)... roll a six sided dice and that first number corresponds to a person in the lineup. For the first event, that persons score deson't count to the team total, but counts to thier individual scores. Then it just rotates through each member through the events. Leaving them with an average.
You could do something similar if there is one team that has 4 members and every other team has 5. Then you roll to see who is first and thier score counts twice for that event to make up for the missing player.
:) Thats all the work my brain is going to do this weekend.

Careful the allure of the Lone Start State can easily cause
that trip to be one way. Just ask Duncan.

If you want a western challenge for the end of the day to test the stamina of the top two teams, how about a cowhide race. Is there a dirt arena nearby? Somebody on a horse has a rope wrapped around the saddle horn, which is attached to a cowhide on the ground. The athlete lays down on the cowhide, grabs the rope and hangs on for dear life, as the horse takes off like a bat out of hell from point A to point B. It's a timed event. If you fall off you are disqualified. You get covered with dirt. Any of you ladies up for this one?

I've got Bethanys scores from Ardenwood 2011, but 'cause of certain restrictions I don't post Ardenwood scores at NASGA. But I can vouch for their authenticity and that the implements weigh in.... Ping me iffin' you want 'em.

Ummm... I'm sure we don't really need to post those for everyone... It wasn't my most stellar performance.
As for the cowhide race, didn't they do an episode like that on Mythbusters?? I think they dragged Tory behind a horse to see if his denim will catch fire.

I'm going to throw down the AD card and say, with certainty, no one will be towed behind any animal larger than Mark Cannon. I see lawsuit written all over that.
