I've gotten a couple of chances to go throw this season and the first time out my weights for distance SUCKED.  I went out to throw with Sean a few times ago and he showed me a one-turn training drill to try to help me.  The first time I did it I was really bad but this second time (today) it was a ton better.  Not only that but it got my WFD's back up to par.  This drill really helps you "feel" the weight once you switch to full throws.  I'm a sold on them now!

What is the drill? I am sure several of us newb's could benefit as well.

Uh, let me try to explain.  All of this if for a right handed thrower.  You start with your right foot on the back line of the throwing area i.e. 9 ft. away.  Your left shoulder, then, will be pointed to the throwing area.  You initiate that throw by casting the weight on your side, like in the spinning weight for height.  Basically, it's just swinging foward and backward.

As the weight starts to come down and foward you, kind of, dip with the weight and once it is at it's low point you pull on it, sprint toward the trig, and turn.  When you land you basically do it all over again and throw the weight out into the field working on following through and not blocking yourself off.

Parts of this discription might be "murky".  Let me know if I could explain something better.

For most who have thrown the discus, they will recognize this as the South
African drill. It is a good drill (and can even be useful in competition) for
WFD.

isn't that drill on the VP Productions video?
If you have it or know someone with it...

so this is basically starting the throw from where you would normally land after the first spin?
