I figured I would start a training log on here, I just got done competing at the MacPherson games this past weekend and it was my first games. I ended up getting 5th out of 8 guys in the B's, kind of dissapointed as I was in 2nd after 5 events but I had never done the sheaf or caber and well it showed.
I don't know when I will be doing another games, probably not tell next year. Here are some of my current PRs.
Squat-510lbs off a parallel box
Deadlift-570lbs
Bench press-350 I think last time I checked
Overhead-280lbs
For the most part I compete in strongman, some powerlifting, and now a little highland games, hopefully more next year. I will post up my DL and upperback workout tommorrow.

Great night today. I pulled an alltime PR on the deadlift. I was quite sore going into this workout from the games on sunday, but I told myself time to buck up, the training to be your best started yesterday.
Deadlift
135 x 5 x 2
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
475 x 1
550 x 2 hook gripped and just a belt alltime PR!!!
Funny thing I have 570 in a meet, but my best pull in the gym for a single is 525, so this a awesome PR.

Decent day today. Things are coming along great and my strength is going through the roof, I think this is mostly due to the fact that I have let my weight stay at the same number for over a month now. I am not really following any set training plan right now, mostly just adding 10-20 lbs a week and going for a certain amount of reps. I guess it is just progressive overload, but for right now I will stick with it. Once I hit a wall, it will be time to change things back up.
Strict presses 130 x 5 150 x 5 170 x 7 These felt like crap, but I haven't done them in a couple weeks. Hopefully next week they feel better.
Close grip bench 135 x 5 x 2 185 x 3 225 x 3 275 x 1 295 x 1 315 x 2 very happy about this, I wanna get 350 x 1 close grip by years end and I am well on my way. 275 x 6 225 x 10 My triceps were smoked at this point, I tried to do dips after this, that wasn't happening.
Tricep pressdown with fatbar 3 x 15
Grip stuff 25, 25, 20, 20
Pullups 11 PR-got 10 last week, now to get 11 I am pumped. 20 is the ultimate goal. then I did 4 sets of 5.

135 x 5 x 2 225 x 5 280 x 3 320 x 1 360 x 3 400 x 1 PR After watching the video of the 400 I should have gone for a dbl or a triple, but I psyched myself up for a single and that was what I wanted.

AB fallouts 3 x 10
Calf Raises 3 x 10
That was it, I was pretty tired after the squats.

His log is a travesty. The only impressive thing is that it has gone on for as long as it has.
How close are your feet in close stance squats? Shoulder width as opposed to wide PL style?

Probably right around shoulder width, when I box squat I go wide, well as wide as my rack allows.

Be prepared to probably be extra sore with the use of bands. The can help you definately become more explosive on the right movements. I used to use bands when I box squatted but I feel like they beat me up too much. I prefer chains for box squats. I love bands on deadlifting, overhead, and benching. Whenever I use bands for squatting I have to wear a loose suit bottom or my hips will feel like they are getting tore apart.

Duncan, bands are awesome for everything.
Jesse, do bands beat your hips up, or do wide squats? I know when I squat wide without briefs it beats my hips up too...just curious to see if you thought it
was the stance or the bands doing the damage.

I think it is more the wide stance, but it seems that squatting with bands in general just beats me up. The chains don't do that to me. In a couple weeks we are gonna work up to a single with bands and about 150lbs of chain, it is gonna be wicked stupid!!!

Overall a good workout today, but it left a dissapointing taste in my mouth. All week I was for sure I was gonna have a big night tonight. It just wasnt' to be, I still pulled an all-time raw PR, but I wasn't happy with it.
DL from the floor just a belt, all heavy sets hook gripped.

565 x 1 Alltime RAW pr.
585 x nothing, I was shot, I probably should have tried this instead of the 565. I know that I am only good for 1 heavy pull in the gym. Oh well like I said I still got a PR, just wasn't what I wanted.

Did some upperbody yesterday.
Strict presses 140 x 3 160 x 3 180 x 6, I had 7 so close which would have been a PR.

grip work. Not the greatest workout, but I think that is cause I am just a little stressed out. Oh well everything will be alright. Got 11 days off from work and it is time to relax.

Wow what an eventful day. I trained my ass off today, as well as everybody else did to. I think everyone got some kind of PR today.
Super Yoke just did pickups with 450 650 800 x 35-40 feet maybe, this is a PR but until I take this damn thing the full 60 feet I will not take it. Not sure what my problem, mainly I haven't been training yoke.

One of my buddies came over to do a workout, so I figured what the hell I will do something.
Kettlebell clean and press
96# KB x 10 each arm, wow never done more than 8 reps with this thing before, so big PR.
Pullups
1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1
That was it, just wanted to do a little to get the soreness worked out.

Doing stones was not a very good idea, my biceps are screaming right now. Oh well, live and learn.

No around here there is nothing going on and I am not able to travel anywhere right now. I am just concentrating on getting stronger. I probably won't do another games until next september, there is one around june in KC, but that is also around the same time of a very popular strongman contest that I love to do. Who knows I just go with the flow and wait and see what happens.

Today was one of those workouts where I knew it had a possibility of being a good workout. I was exhausted all day and kept yawning on my way home. I don't know what it is but whenever I yawn alot, I seem to have a good workout. Today didn't dissapoint.

Was very tired going into tonights workouts. Had a bunch of different aches and pains. I think this was attributed mostly to the change in weather. Just the nature of the game I guess, I didn't let it stop me from having a good workout.
Strict press 110 x 5 x 2 140 x 5 160 x 5 180 x 7 could have done more but I had a very new pain in my shoulder and decided it wasn't worth pushing it. Just relooked and I only got 6 last cycle, so 1 rep PR.
Close grip bench 135 x 5 185 x 5 225 x 3 275 x 1 315 x 1 I was gonna stop here, but Chuck told me it looked easy and fast, sure as hell didn't feel easy or fast. 340 x 1 5# PR Well this was a grinder, but thank god for having good training partners who know what to tell you. I really had to change up my bench form because of my shoulder. I was lowering the weight very slow and this sucked. But I got it, so doesn't matter now.
Blast strap pushups 5 x 10
Thick bar pushdowns 5 x 10
Pullups x multiple sets didn't count.

Ok day today, gotta get used to the cold weather. Took me forever to get warmed up.
Log press 160 x 3 200 x 3 220 x 3 245 x 2 was supposed to be at least 3 but not today. I think this is still a PR I just gotta get better at reps with heavier weight.
Incline log press 240 x 9 I think this is a PR also.
Then I just kind of sat around and helped everyone, I was too damn tired.
So then Corey manageds to load 270, 310, 330, and 360 in a series for huge PR. I was like that crap ain't gonna happen I am gonna beat his time!!! So I loaded it faster for an alltime PR on a series!!!
Hammer curls 4 x 10
Blast strap work for shoulders. bunch of sets.
Good day overall, stayed up wathcing tv tell like 3 or 4 in the morning and then got woke up early.

Wow what an epic day. I still don't know how this workout went as well as it did, as I has one helluva of a headache before I lifted.

Chest supported rows 4 x 10 was going to do 5 sets but broke the support bar on the last set, damn't gettting to strong.

abs 6 x 20
Wow what a feeling, I am on cloud nine right now. Of course when I wake up something tells me I will be a whiny sore crybaby, but it is all worth it.

Was still quite sore from tuesday, more deep tissue soreness. I foam rolled and that helped but I still was very tight throughout my upperback.
Strict press 150 x 3 170 x 3 190 x 5 my best is 6 so I can't complain.
Close grip bench 135 x 5 185 x 3 225 x 3 all paused 275 x 1 pause 300 x 1 pause 320 x 1 pause This is actually a paused PR
The 300 and 325 will be 1st and 2nd attempts at the meet.
Tate presses 4 x 8
Close grip blast strap pushups feet elevated 10,5,5,5,5,5,5 I added a set of chains eat set last set sucked.
That was it, happy with how it went.

Decent workout today. I felt sluggish at first but once I moving things went decent.
Log clean and press Decided to drop the weight and do reps, UGH I hate reps. 160 x 5 190 x 5 215 x 7 was actually jerking a few of them but ran out of gas. Figures I am fat and of shape right now. But I think this might be PR for reps.

18" DL 625 x 3 dead stop each rep PR
Keg load 200, 220, 250, 270, 290 1 run to 48" been awhile but they felt good.

Oh definately not Duncan. I have just always wanted to deadlift 600lbs, and for the longest time I just didn't think it would happen. Now all I can think about is getting 700lbs, but I think about getting there 25#s at a time. So next step 625.

Ok workout today, I spent 2 hours working on my car and I was pissed off. I don't have great workouts when I am mad. But this wasn't all that bad.

This workout really sucked, my shoulders were killing me. Now I look back I forgot to foam roll. Hmm should maybe do that.

I competed in a powerlifting meet today, in retrospect I did alright, just dissapointed.
Bench I used a close grip on all benches
1st 300 good
2nd 320 5# PR good
3rd 340 fail
Deadlift
1st 550 good
2nd 600 locked it out and then my foot moved fail
3rd 600 fail, nothing left.

Hey man, you deadlifted 3 times in 7-8 days. I used to try to deadlift 2 times in a week and realized it stopped working for me. You need to have someone chain you up and not let you lift before a meet like this. It takes alot to compete. I respect anyone who will put themselves out there and do a competition. I wouldn't be unhappy with a 320 and 550 raw.

Well for me I never started making the gains I have until I deadlifted twice a week. Typically I pull twice a week for 2 weeks then 1 day the 3rd week. I should put up the video of the 600 as I can say I am a 600 # raw puller now, just have goofy feet :) Thanks Sean.

great lifts, I love watching lifting vids. I agree with Sean. Instead of hitting DLs twice a week, why not just attack your posterior more when you aren't DLing? DLs REALLY tax your CNS so to hitting them twice a week is probably slowing your progress on everything else as well. You can get posterior stimulation that will carry over to your DL by hitting GMs, RDLs, Rev Hyper, GHRs, Pullthroughs, etc.. I've got a buddy who went 2 months without deadlifting and then hit a 35lb PR last week, because he was crushing his posterior all that time instead. Just some food for thought. The less your CNS is taxed, the better your recovery and more gains you'll make...

Craig I am 33, turning 34 next month.
I appreciate the advice but I am gonna stick with what is working. I can deadlift 3 times a week and recover from it, just the way I am. But if I try to squat more than once a week it about kills me. With what I am doing now I hardly ever go over 90% on my pulls from the floor and the second day is a pull off blocks which require more leg that lower back.

Took it easy for once in my life, felt nice. Did a light session friday and sunday took it easy as my knee was still effed up. But I am feeling better and have found 2 powerlifting meets to train for and hopefully a strongman competition. They are all around 3-4 months away, so it is time to get strong. That 600 will be official at my next meet and more, plus I am gonna finally concentrate more on my raw bench, and I might even consider doing a squat in am meet, not sure about that yet though. Training starts somewhat back up tommorrow, light deadlifts and back work.

First day of real training in a week. Things felt off, I am still quite fattened up from thanksgiving binging, I had to bring my lever belt out a notch. Granted I figured this out after I did my heavy deadlift set, that hurt.

460 x 5 prescribed reps. Hook gripping hurts enough as it is, but it seems to hurt more the colder the bar is.

Overall not a bad day, I got a young kid I am training. He has got alot of heart and doesn't complain when I tell him what he is doing. Haven't a young kid with heart and spunk really brings energy to the gym. We needed some new life in the gym, I really enjoy helping the young ones out, just get really pissed when they don't fully appreciate it.

Today was one of those days where I was highly unmotivated, but after a quick 15 min snooze, I got a little motivation. It was a rough day though, no sleep, my daughter was sick, and I had a stomach bug.
Box squats, slightly above parallel. 135 x 5 225 x 5 315 x 5 410 x 5 430 x 5 PR I could have done more, but figured better not push the limits today.

That was it, 30 min workout was perfect. Can't wait to try out my new DL suit on sunday.

You got 100lbs out of your suit on an 18" pull? 100lbs is a huge carryover out of a DL suit from the floor, much less from 18". Which suit did you get, King Pro
or Deadlifter?

I am not getting 100 lbs out it. My best 18" dl is like 655 raw and I
had more in me that day. I am defiantely getting a good amount out
of it as the 700 went up real good. It is a impressive suit.
Andy I got the pro. With velcro you can definately more out of it on
the 18" pull. Reverse wedgie is right, the reason you can pull prs is
cause your balls are in your throat. Cause of that sheer pain you
have no other choice.

For the most part good day today. I felt a little sluggish, but my workout went well. I got a nice PR and you can't really ask for much more.
Strict press 110 x 5 x 2 130 x 3 155 x 3 175 x 3 195 x 6 PR sixth rep was a absolute grinder, I think my whole body locked up on this.
Close grip bench Ok so I am doing a powerlifting meet in probably feb or march and I have to bench flat footed, I hate to bench flat footed but you gotta do what you gotta do. 135 x 5 185 x 5 225 x 3 260 x 3 290 x 5 horrible hamstring cramp on 5th rep, not very happy about this but benching flat footed changes up my form alot. Its a starting point. Add slingshot 290 x 9

So I decided to drive out to my buddy's house as I have been telling him for quite a while I would come down for a workout. It was a nice hour drive but he drives down every week to train so no biggie.

405 x 1 I was gonna rep this, but I have been using a buffalo bar and he has a regular bar, just threw me off enough to abort.

Why I am a better box squatter than a regular squatter is beyond me. But I won't complain.
I figured I better take off as it was past 10pm and I am not a great night time driver.

Ok day today, I was a little worn down from squatting friday, but I made it through it ok.
Decided to have the guys and lady do all the events for the hope for the holidays next week and their 1st and 2nd attempts. It went good for them.
Incline Log 240 x 11 PR
18" DL I just worked up to 610lbs no reason to push it right now.
Farmers hold 240 each hand x 58 sec wow i can't believe I made it this long. I went first to set a mark, Troy got 1 min 3 sec, Corey got 55 sec, and Brian got 1 min 3 also, homos. Melissa held 120 each hand for 1 min 20 sec and Joe did 280 each hand 35 sec.
Keg load to 52" 200, 220, 250, 270, 290 19.xx fastest out of everyone haha bitches!!! It is amazing how 4" higher can throw things off that much.(thats what she said!!!)
Log press worked up to 240 one motion press which I believe is a PR and then did 2 more reps.
