No Matt, my best was 350 in each hand for 25' while training for the Northeast Strongman Showdown 01' ?. I think the -250 group went 250 lb. each hand for a 100'. Smoked it as I recall- too light.

Wayne, I do them with a highland/throwers twist in mind-I'm doing a standing side chop at waist height, not overhead and down. Alot more core and taxing this way. Shoulders feeling great thanks to the kettlebell press, the stretch rehab and the cortisone.

Matt you can " halt/stop " the bar at any position. I hold just below the knees. I do them SG to maintain a horizontal back, or standard grip off a 4" block. I've seen O-lifters do them, and I've read (34 ways to excer's to improve your deadlift)  the Finns like them an assitance movement. I'll eventually transition from the halt to a pause and finnish. CAUTION: Lower Back . I go right to the inversion table between sets.

Scotland, Ct for you ?

If you know Don he says stuff like "pretty easy" all the time and your initial
thought is "he's joking".....then reality hits and your realize "no....he's not"

Never seen a guy make throwing look so easy as he does either.

Makes being awesome look easy.

Thanks men!!! Stuck at 248-250 Dave. Can't move down, need to take in less or up the cardio. The plan is to find a local AAU Raw Power Meet, and jump in the 242's-take a token Bench and try a 600 Dead. It's gonna be all about the grip for me. Just wanted to get one out of my system.  Back to the 5x5 grind this Sun.

Tony hope I can get up to Loon to see you and the rest of AM's Sunday.

The record is a given.  The hard part is getting that chassis down under the 242.  But as large as you are, I wonder if they will weigh you the night prior so you could loose some water and then by morning put it back in.

Don,

GREAT work on the GM's...I get into the weeds with anything over 315!!!  A question about your plate twists:  Are these the simple move I am thinking of?  Just your basic side to side move?  Is the plate held at arm's length, or do you hold it in close?

Been doing some experimenting in the gym and my core/rotational strength is...well...low.  And as such, it is becoming a big part of my training.  Figured I would ask!

Keep it up Hoss!

Duncan - I do an old style standing straddel style side to side bend with a plate (25-35) with straight arms all the way. I also do a standing plate twist with a slight bend in the elbows. I would consider some releasing moves (search pud throws) with a variety kettlebells. These will allow you to work the core and accelerate through the movement.

Gene-just focusing my efforts into the wts. Sorry I missed you guys up at Loon, sounded like a typical great weekend up at Loon. First one I've missed in 15 years. Just can't hang around and be a spectator. Trying to look ahead to next year.

All kinds of circut training every day this past week. Wed. past made 550x1 raw DL with overhand/hook grip.

Don, just wanted to say thanks for the help a couple weeks ago. 2 competitions in a row and only fell on my face once in the distance throws. Had a season best in hw at pipes (19'7") and a personal best in lw at goshen (41'10"). First time I ever went over 40 feet. Still a lot of work to be done just to get somewhat comfortable. Hapy helped me out a bit at Goshen, also. Someday, I hope to get at least respectable numbers. I definitely plan to get together with you in the spring.

Thanks again,

Josh

Then a 6 week russian dead cycle, which hopefully gets me into 600 raw shape. Then a westside type cycle for several weeks. The first reps suck for me 2 and 3 are always faster.

Don has used up and tried every option other than surgery on the shoulder and has run out of solutions.  Surgery is scheduled on February 2, and he is still trying to do some things as well as it will allow.  Hopefully they can go in and fix this so he can recover and join us on the field this coming year.  We are looking to Calvary for a reunion.  Let's keep Don in prayer and thoughts.  He needs a break.

Just felt ready to do some squatting today-felt pretty comfortable w/ the ssb. May be able to rock the lefty wob a bit this spring.

I was just at PT this afternoon hitting the eliptical machine when I looked around and saw a sea of gray hair all around me. I laughed at myself and said "I can outlift anyone in this room!" Then I said to myself: "Baby steps Robin, baby steps."

Keep it up Big Don!

Thanks Robin, rehab going well thus far. All about range of motion at this point. I'll settle in and be back when I hit double nickles.

Don, Thanks for posting your progress. Your posts are something I look forward as motivation b/c I am coming off a shoulder surgery as well (fortunately, not a replacement...though the dr said that may happen one day).
Stay strong!

BJ - did so many variations back then it's hard to recall, but it was always a good movement for me along with rdl's stiff legs, back hypres, glute-hams raises. These were always done with a flat back bar down to hips. Not to be confused with some of the very short powerlifting g/m's

I did all kinds, i.e. seated, standing straight legs, bent knees, bent knee to toe extension/jump, full good morning squat, also bands and chains were used. But to your question- the wts were 315-405 with reps between 3-10. Never maxed out, with heavier wts it was about speed out of the bottom. Currently ( last week ) made 250 plus 12O chains x5 . Take em slow if your gonna incorporate.

2 years might be the time for a human, but no way will it take DD that long.  This is a freight train just coming out of the station and picking up steam.  They put the man way down deep in the valley, but the peak is in sight in front of him.  I put all my money on the table and say he gets back to a peak.

55 on 7/16. Body is a mess with joint pain.....recent conversation with Myles about said pain is helping. Trying to do static holds at various positions for all the upper body stuff. Shoulders feeling better this week. My son (16) joined me for some pulls he wanted to test today. He's been getting ready football and hitting some Judo tournaments.

Cole 135x3 225x1 315x1 425 x3 💪new record for him.
Don 225 10x2 sumo
Cole 225 x3 push press record for him.

We both did the Ed Coan circute rows pull down GM and stiff legs... some hanging static bicep towel holds at 90 degrees for the son - working those DT arm strength move.

We both had our shot at the Russian Kettelbell 10 min 2 arm snatch test. Swing a 24 kg KB 2 arm snatch for 10 mins. My son getting close to the 5 min mark I hit 3 mins. We used a 45 lb. My son does this 2x a week at Judo class. I usually do 3, 1 min bouts. Baab will do this tonight in his driveway.
