I've heard arguments on both sides for and against doing
speed pulls/throws with a light weight for developing a
good snap for your W.O.B. Any good insights?

If you're used to tossing a 56, occasionally tossing a 42 will help your explosiveness.  You have less time for the pull, because you're accelerating the weight faster, so  you need to hit it with a bang, rather than a continuous pull.

OTOH, I see you're a lightweight.  I don't think I'd toss anything lighter than, say, 35 lbs to train for tossing the 42.  A 28 is just too light, and would mess with your timing too much.

When I threw as a lightweight, I also did a lot of throwing with the 56.

I only use a 42 and a 47 to practice for height and distance.  Mostly b/c I can get more reps. without dying.  If you are going to use a 28 I wouldn't use it past the winter or early spring.  The 35 would make sense.

Agree with HB3.  I read an article noting that he and Paul Ferency used 28lbs and 35lbs weights, with an occasional throw with a 56 every 2weeks or once a month.  This has worked very well without it mining my back out.

Thanks guys. I'm two weeks out of the Cache Games here in Ut and I've been overtraining a little bit in the gym. I'm going to take a week light (3 throws per event, mon wed fri and some light running), one max day in Squat, Deadlift, and Bench Press... and then an off week before the games, again only doing a few throws a couple of times during the week. This winter I want to focus more on mass and power before really cutting up my form before next spring.
