8/1/10......On the comeback trail......gym at high school closed so right
to the field
Light br stone X 5 times
Open stone X 5 times
Light weight for distance X15 times(3 position progression...5 throws
from a stand, 5 throws with 1 spin, 5 throws with regular 2 spins)
Standing WOB X5 times
Side sling wob X 5 times

Plans for 8/2
Am/weight room.press day
Pm/sheaf and prowler push after we train the football team

sorry about that Craig-computer was on and didn't realize i wasn't logged on as me...damn internet

 Goals-to be competitive,have fun,and throw some heavy stuff

1st games goals-come out in 1 piece(haha)open stone-35'..28wfd-32-6....14wfd-65...caber-flip it..don't know if hammer is at 1st games or sheaf...wob 13-6+

2nd games goals-to improve in all 7-9 events but mainly 35+ in hwfd..65+in 14wfd

by end of October and end of new England games hit 36-41 in open stone,36-41 in 28wfd,68-72 in lwfd,14-6+ in wob and to flip every caber given to me this year

Gnome-Dan will be around but is busy coahing and being the S&C coach for our schools hockey team so he will wait till Oct

 8/2am-Box Squat 185,205,225 X 5 reps,245,265 X 2 reps,275 X 2 reps ,Cable pull thrus,ab's and core work

   pm-sheaf toss  15X with 10lb bag-working on direction and pop

8/3 am Incline press-working up to 1rm ,d/b bp 3 X 10,core work

8/4 am-heavy snatches working up to heavy triple,coach mac cleans,1 arm db snatches(simulating wob but do 6 reps righty and 6 reps lefty)30,40,45,35 lb d/bs

   pm-will be doing some heavy braemer stone tonite after we train the football team

8/4 pm: Heavy Braemer stone (broke out old reliable Dr Bill Stone..yeah dan names his stones)previous comp pr was 33-3(i think) felt solid and had watched a video of the top female hg athlete and  watched her braemer style and it reminded me of a few basics...

took 10 tosses working on pop..felt good and pushed a few past 31 feet(wasn't measuring as was trying to get done quick-to hot outside)

8/5 am-Speed Incline benches(need more pushing speed so will be adding these in) 85 X 3reps X 3 sets,95 X 3 reps X 3 sets,105 X 3 reps X 3 sets..all with 45 sec rest between

         Standing d/b presses with a bit of leg /hip drive 3X 6

         Side laterals 2x 15

         rear laterals 2 X 15

         cable woodchoppers 2 X 10(each side)

PM;scorcher in Ny so unsure of what i am doing after i train the hockey team with Dan tonite...either sheaf tosses or light hammer we shall see

8/5-pm too hot to throw,and wiped out as when training high school kids you end up showing them the lifts,correct form,etc & end up working out

8/6 am was going to pull but was with football team and had to teah them box squatting and got carried away..will speed snatch & coach mac clean tom + throw    Box Squat 185 X5,205 X5,225 X3,245 X 3,265 X 2,275 X2,feeling good 295 X2(exploding off box),315 X 2(3 sets-just to show the boys)  leg assitance silly stuff(leg curls,leg ext) and done...want to throw some baremer tonite as Dan was fooling around a bit with braemer Thurs nite while training the hockey team and he looked solid so he may be coaxed into throwing sooner

8/6 am-deadlift 5/3/1(5 weeks) +BBB assitance, 30min cardio

PM-trained hockey team with Terri...grabbed thick handled kettlebells and while hockey ran sprints went to goalposts(which I have marked heights) 52lb kb  3X(cleared 13-0 easy)

             48lb kb 3x(cleared 14-0)

             44kb 5X (cleared 15-0 and real close to 16-0) feeling good will condition saturday and braemer in pm

Pm; 17/20 stone drill 12 throws with 15lb stone
        42lb wob. 3X over 13 feet
                           2X over 15 feet
                           2x over 16 feet
Felt good! Called it a day no training Tom.going to the jersey shore

ok Pm was skipped! was tough enough to leave the Wood Compound on top of the mountain to train the football team while the pool is staring at me..so practice was a tough one..but broke out the fork-sanded the tines and will throw in the am(immediately after lifting at HS) so we get it in

ok sanded terri's sheaf fork down...went outside and took 10 tosses felt ok...was using a light 16lb bag and was clearing 25 foot roof easy all 10 times....need to put some goals for me  for my first game(scotland Ct I think or if I can get an invite to Goshen)

42wfd(will only use one spin in wfd till i can spin with ease and don't look like a spaz or kill myself...some reason legs don't work like they used to you)....33

28wfd   45+

42wob-17-0(ok this has never been my problem and hit 16-0 2x last week)

       pm-training with Hockey team did overhead med ball tosses over the football field

8/11--will take off and go to the beach

8/12 heavy incline day & in PM heavywfd

High rep barbell squat 5sets X 10 Reps
1 legged leg press 25 reps( 2 sets)
Cardio on a 15% incline for 30 minutes

Doing this just to get some "sea legs"

Pm just some rotational stuff with med balls

had a little retro bit in my workout!....used my favorite competition shirt(my Red Hook Brewery...STEWART/USA) and felt pumped for the workout..fav shirt/little pantera and a red bull puts you in the zone good workout!

8/13 pm.    Ok was supposed to train the high school hockey and
football team was feeling a little fired up so lifted a 2nd time did
standing milt press 5/3/1 (3 week) w/ BBB assistance will do some
Dan John conditioning in am while Terri does overhead squats +
speed snatches then we will both throw breamer stone + some wob

had to drive Kaitlyn to East Stroudsburg,Pa for her weeklong cross country camp and by the time got home it was raining...so no outside throwing but we grabbed medicine ball in a sling and i did spins and line drills

Med ball tosses working on stone form and explosion..quick reversals

Speed benches 85,95,105,115-2 sets at each weight for 3 reps each
exploding up(don't have a tend unit but quickest and most forcefullshe
has been in a while) standing db sh presses,shoulder stability stuff,db
tris

Good quick workout...Tuesday deads,box squats,overhead squats,and
some heavy Wfd.    (I am looking to launch the 42 Tom nite!).

Was concerned with trying to get lean....was 258 before training for
comeback dropped to 243 withcardio...said screwthishowcan I
getinDrBills hole if I am light so started
eating,eating,lifting,eating,pushing the iron and weighed in this am at
256 amresettinggoals and will br stone 35+. And throw the 42 wob for
17 feet or better!!

Am.   8/17.     Terr i Box Squat.
                          Dan dead lift 335 x. 5 reps
                                                   375 x. 3 reps
                                                    405 x 7 reps

Pm. After testing hockey team in push press and box squat to see how
much they have progressed in the last 6 weeks. Once they are done
will go throw the heavy wfd for the 1 st time in 3 years!

8/17 pm.      First time spinning in 3 years....little nervous..only one turn
till I get my spins down
14 wfd. 5x. 52 to 55 feet
28 wfd. 3x. 37 to 41 feet
42 wfd. 2x. 26 and 28 feet
Long way from 42wfd of 47 10 and a 28wfd of 65 feet but it's a start
will add 2 to 3 throws a practice with 28 & 42 till I am comfortable and
fel ready to progress to 2 spins.   Overalll felt ok but Terri says I have
to crouch and sink more as usual she picked up where she left off and
was throwing good form was tight and solid and marks were decent.
She will be back throwing bombs in no time

8/18 am....Terri.    Tri-pull snatches 5 sets working on triple ext and
speed
                               1arm db snatch 3 reps each arm 25,40,45',40,35,30
                                  20 min card

                   Dan....Dan johns south wood complex for fat
loss/conditioning....25 min card.     

Off to home and lawn cutting then resting by pool on my last day of
freedom. Thursday starts high school football season...double and
triple sessions for the next 19 days

Been super busy but will update this week

8/28 Quechee HG

Br stone-28+couldn't keep  tight to neck and not finishing put

open stone 34+-same as above

28wfd-need higher cast but felt ok 32+

14wfd-didn't like weight but still need higher cast and faster 2nd spin

Caber 12:00 x 3 need heavier caber too easy

#10 sheaf-20-6(hate this event and have no clue..won but didn't keep going as I hate the sheaf and it was hot cleared 20-6 by 5 feet when I called it)

28wob-felt ok and def will get 14+ in next weeks game or possibly 15+

3 1st places,3 2nds,and 1 3rd-but next week will be ready and they have a hammer...wooo hooo

off to gym for overhead squats and power snatch from blocks

good weight training session today to break up soreness!! 

I did a Dan John Southwood complex to warmup & condition + some chins and arms 

 Terri did overhead squats + some power snatches...did some 17/20 line drills with high cast(used a med ball sling with 16lb med ball) and feel 28 will go 35-39 this weekend and 14 66+...took some hammer winds with 12lb and was coaxed into throwing a few..felt ok  75+ w 12...will wind the 16 Tuesday(posted from Terri J)

Between kids,work,weight room didn't get any practice but will see if I can improve from last week...got 2 good weight room sessions in on Tuesday..overhead squats,coach mac power cleans,db bp

Thursday...spped snatches,speed push presses,pulcinella pulls

Saturday-pre-comp CNS workout

looking to go over 35 with 28wfd,65+with 14,85 with hammer,and 15+in 28 wob...have watched video of last week at Quechee + some archived video of me throwing and did some line drills to correct problems

Sunday nites post should answer any questions

Terri took 2nd to lacey and while improving a bit didn't feel right in the box...while practice will fix this she never practiced alot in the past but 6+ years of doing 14-18 games a year you get comfortable in the box and behind the trig...it will take some reps thats all...she will strength train hard and do line drills till Otober as there are no really big games for women for a while

monday 9/6-speed bench,core,arms to lessen any soreness

 

Dan:no workout for me today as practice was last of pre-season for football (8am to 3) and when I finished traianed the hockey team

at Altamont between helping out and judging took 5 sheaf tosses(cleared 25 feet all 5 times easy)...and took some hwcks at 42 wob...went 13,14,15 and was going to do 16 but didnt bring my knee brace and didn't want to push it

at completion of hockey workout went outside and spun with medicine ball and terri watched me from the gym and commented how fluid,quick,powerfull it looked-I can say without a doubt it was the best(dynamic thing) I felt in last 3 years...will actually go after this !!!Scotland Ct is MINE!
