Myles,

A guy in his late, late thirties has the time to go
through a proper recovery process, heal up right, and
come back strong and healthy after a suitable period of
time.

I am sure you want to be back to "normal" ASAP, and we
all want the same for you, but have the patience to
remember that ASAP doesn't necessarily mean right away.

Chin up friend!

Peter.

Ok, Myles is getting ready to go into surgery to have a heart stimulator implanted.  I have talked to him and he is understandably nervous.  This ultimately means that there will be no more competing or heavy lifting, for those that don't already know.

This was a text I received last night at 1 o'clock in the morning...

"Craig,

Please post this on the board.  I am alone in my room tonight with the procedure in the morning.  This is my fifth night.  My chest has half a dozen leads wired to a nice color tv.  My pulse and pressure are up there, informative.  None of it helps.

I am alone, scared, and contemplating the exit.  I have cried and will more.  Sleep will not show easy.  They have tripled my medicated me, and it is a joke.  Six would kick it up...a notch.

The suits want me to be happy about their shiny machine to shock my heart.  So here I am with the true definition of lonely.

Myles"

Please keep the love and good thoughts headed his way.

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for 17
years, an Elder at my Church for 11 years, worked with
Hospice, plus seen the generation before me in my family
pass on. I have sat bedside more times than I care to
mention for that moment and I know, eventually, it will
be my turn. I don't claim this gives me any special
insight or knowledge, just that I've been there. Nobody
knows how they will react and nobody can judge anyone
else.

I want Myles to know that regardless, he is NOT alone in
that room. We are all there with him.

On another note, not that any needs a lecture from me,
but I'm gonna do it anyway:

Fellas, I recently got my ticker checked out for the
second time, Prevention. Do it if you are over 30,
regardless. You pull a hammy, you sit on the bench, you
pull your heart muscle and it doesn't heal that way.
When muscle tissue dies in the heart it doesn't heal back
like other muscle. So get it checked out and if you have
to bite the bullet, then do it.

Brother Myles,

I'm praying hard for you but that goes to God. Here is something for you my friend. You're not strong because you lift heavy, you lift heavy because you're strong. There's a whole lotta ways to lift heavy in this world and no matter what they might put in your chest or how they might limit your physical pursuits you can still make that difference. I was on the field the day of the John Ross miracle. And don't think for one second that the physical limitations he had after that day kept him from continuing to be one of the strongest men in the games. He just shows his strength in other ways now, not one bit less important than throwing high or far.

Will you still have the opposition shaking in their boots even if you can't throw? Hell yes buddy. You put that big plow mule heart behind AD'ing or judging. And every other AD or judge in the games will be walking around with a pantload trying to live up to the standard you'll set.

Keep the faith my friend.
