I would like to apologize for the length of the video (1:54). I did the video trim thing to just the throw and saved the changes but it wouldn't stick. On the other hand, this will give yall a idea of what it is like to throw in Southeastern Louisiana in February. I have wondered what it is like throwing/practicing in other parts of the US. I saw that Don Stewart and Dave B are in NYC/Brooklyn and can only imagine them throwing on a sidewalk (never been up North).
Anyway, please help me. I am wonderful with criticism, so let me have it. Whatever I can do to improve, I am in.

Hey, at least we aren't going to get attacked by wild boar or kidnapped by the Others. Where the heck are you throwing, Narnia?
Form looks good. Now try speeding it up.

Stewart's from Boston (Southie that is as a young lad before I was forced to move because of Ted Kennedys and Judge Garritys social experiment of forcably busing the youth of Boston, but I'm over all that now), Ma., now in burbs. Hit a games in NewEngland for some northern exposure.
I like that location MM, the isolation, the plank walk before the throw, the being very careful not to step in the quick sand.
The form: everything in the right place, seems you were keeping it slow beacause of the wet, but all the basics there. One point: out of the back push out of the back harder with your left foot/leg/side to get you going linear and prevent any over rotating. Try and do the full no reverse drill (which your close to doing), which is a great balance check-meaning finish with both feet down facing the trig, the left is in the bucket a bit,the hips have rotated in the direction of the throw. It's an indicator that you have command of the movement and balance is good, if you can stick the landing without reversing. To keep interesting: See if you can get to your high averages with no reverse in the off season and then come spring it's time to crank the speed and the right will have to come across because of all that increased foward accelearation. See Sanfords 85' in 99' @ Pleasanton - you tube.

Don, can't thank you enough.
Do you need a passport to get into this "New England"?
Thanks again, MM

MM- best advice I ever got on this event was to GO TO THE TRIG!!! Mike Smith 2003
Form looks good , after the first turn and plant DROP 4 inches and lean left HARD right at the trig.
When you figure this part out , the next step is to get 2nd turn down faster so u can take advantage of increased speed.
Line drills = 5 smooth turns down a line ( you'll have to chop down some more forest) would be your best friend - GO TO THE TRIG!! repeat, etc.
Watch videos of the good people and see how quickly and FAR they move from first turn to 2nd.

Wow...very interesting timing on your comment. I was just watching vid of Dan throwing last week. It was amazing to me the distance between his first turn and where he landed on second.
I literally put my fingers up to screen to measure it...LOL.
No I know I wasn't imagining it. Thanks!

Thanks for that visual Mike of sinking and going to the trig and then about the concept of moving FAR from the 1st turn to the 2nd, it helps. I will work on the line drills. "You'll have to chop down some more forest"....nice, lol!
Thanks again, MM

Do you have to worry about crocs or snakes if you shank one off the field?

I have seen one alligator in the back yard creek and we have a snake or three here. I have to put up the weights every night so the raccoons that come by every night don't steal them...they're BIG.

Awesome Vid of the back 40. What are your sheaf towers made of?
Looking forward to throwing with you.

Bill, Don't you see the the towers. Its the two trees on the left in the video. Robin, I see one reason why your throwing is not improving with your strength level. You're spending too much time looking for lost implements.

Careful with this, as it is NOT a lean in the sense that your shoulder will dip. It is just drive to the trig.

Two pine trees with a pvc pipe between them. But unfortunately, the bamboo has overtaken the area so bad I don't have room for sheaf, so I only do WOB there. I will take some video of that so you can get a laugh.

Thanks Craig, I would have DEFINITELY dipped my shoulder. Even when I visualized it, I dipped my shoulder.

The two main problems I see are your legs being almost straight and your cast is driving forward.
Legs - A straight leg holds no power and is useless. Bend the knees and land in a drive position.
Cast - The ball of the weight should lift almost parallel to the back line. (It won't, but try.) Brock is one of the best at this. That allows for the ball to cover the largest circumference possible. It also puts your high / low point in the correct place.
Just my opinion!!!

Thanks CooolOne - MM listen to him - it's a WHOLE BODY SINK AND LEAN/DRIVE straight to trig....NOT a shoulder dive.

Thank you for your opinion HB3! Your footwork with the wfd is amazing. I have noticed how you have incorporated an extra half turn at the cast by altering your initial foot placement. I would imagine for more velocity. Wow.
I completely get the straight leg thing. I thought so also when watching the video back. Sink and drive.
As far as the cast: "The ball of the weight should lift almost parallel to the back line." Just so I can have this really correctly, is this as the weight comes behind me during the cast or are you speaking about as the weight moves in front of my body to initiate the first turn?
Thanks again for your time and advice.

Ok--here's what I noticed...
You have 2 towels! ONE for your shoes and ONE for your weight! I's 20-
something degrees here and I'm trying to practice spins in 8 inches of snow!
I want your back yard. I want to be a thrower from the south. I want to be a
foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier--oh and 15 years younger!
Just kidding--
You just got advice from HBIII and Craig Smith! Aint NASGA great?!

NASGA is amazing Pete. I am continually amazed at the generosity of knowledge from professional and veteran throwers in this sport. Honestly, what other sport can you put up some video and get FREE advice from pros and those in the know?? I don't see that happening anywhere.
And believe me, I have printed out the advice I got and put up in my cube at work and in my workout notebookto meditate on.
Amazing! Thanks again to Dave, Don, Mike, Craig and HB3 (look at that line up!)

MM,
I mean in the back at the beginning of your cast. I turned my entry position b/c I have had sooooo many problems with my cast. This forces me into the correct weight orbit.

I have to write in to say I threw yesterday for the first time in a week and a half due to illness; but, I read the advice given on this thread to the point of meditation. I threw the 28 to ease back into throwing. After really focusing on just two of the things mentioned here (bending my knees and creating some distance between the first and second turn) as my brain is too small to do more than that I was CONSISTENTLY at my backyard PR (got dark so out of 5 throws I threw at my PR 3 times and was only 1' off for one throw) and I was not throwing full out but only at 80% as the move is new to me. During my warm-ups I was equalling my best throws the last time I threw.
Here some video of one my last throws with the 28:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I17OdQPLDn0 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I17OdQPLDn0
I am particularly happy because even I see that I am still slow but I know I can speed up. I was really pressing the knee bend and move from the 1st to 2nd turn.
I am next going to add a focus on the cast orbit after what HB3 said. To be honest, I was walking around my office a few minutes ago when I finally got the idea fixed in my head what he was talking about. So now I know what to do/look for on video.
Thanks again to all that have helped! This is huge for me.
As always, if you see something in the above video I can improve on, please don't hesitate to say something.
