Does anybody have a set warm-up routine they do prior to competition? I find myself doing a little jog around the field a little stretch here a little stretch there and then I pull something during a throw, or I start to cramp up. I do try to stay hydrated. I would like hear what others are doing to avoid injury.

As I am a new guy to the HG community take this as you will, but my thing is...
Turn that little jog into a jog, break a sweat. Concentrate on the upcoming comp and get your head into it - motivation. Stretch for real, not just a little here and there ,once your muscles are warm. Go through a few throws sans weight, just your body. When warming up your throws start easy, just go through the foot work without any effort, then add your hips, then increase the speed. This is your last chance to practice and work on little things before the comp. Hit at least a decent throw with 75-80% to end with. Enjoy the comp, do not practice through it. Grip it and rip it. |

I do essentially the same warm up I do in the gym...foam roll/mobility/dynamic warm up.

Drink coffee, apply horse liniment, shoulder dislocates with mini band, talk smack to every one bigger and/or better than me(everybody), some random low back and hip stuff, try not to suck.

I agree with the smack talk part. I never warm up and i have never had a problem. I get a feel for the stones weight by holding it. take a couple turns with a hammer to remind myself what the weight feels like. I just step up. yell real loud and have fun. Don't take it to serious. That's my advice. I have never hurt anythign or torn anything.

I've never been in a car accident, so there's no need to wear my seat belt.
This is terrible advice. |

Too bad she didn't make the Olympics. The original video for that song is damn near NSFW. |

I think I was misunderstood. No worries. On an unrelated note did you know steroid use can cause inflammation of the brain making it very difficult to process information.
Anyway back to my post. My advise boiled down to stepping up, Yelling real loud, and not taking things to serious. If you re read it some of you may understand. Me, I'm not a super good thrower. But I can hold my own. If I had some type of anabolic "help" and was top 10 in the Country and really cared about my throws whole lot, I would change how I do things. I would probably follow Mr. Smith's advise he seems to know how to do it. As for me I am very happy with going out and having a good time and hanging out with my friends on the field. Good throws and bad throws. Its about having a good time. That is all take it how you want.

Misunderstood or not, your reference to steroid abuse is uncalled for and disrespectful! Insinuating that men or women here are cheaters is not the path to gaining a sympathetic ear to your issue. We all participate for the fun in this game but we also have a great deal of respect for the friends we make here and we don't want to throw out flippant remarks about these things like steroid abuse which are very serious.

So, you did it the old fashioned way? Paint chips? Your mom dropped you on your head?
Also, reading your results, it looks like you "hold your own" an awful lot. |

Well, 2 things he won't have to worry about:
1. Being top 10 anywhere.
2. An abundance of friends at most games.

Surely someone with such skill at processing information and reading comprehension read the OP, which asked specifically for a pregame warm up?
You did, and gave the advice of not warming up at all. Then said be sure to step up, yell, and not be serious. Which, as stated, is terrible advice. Why you would even consider telling athletes not to warm up before a competition (or anything really) is ridiculous and a disservice to anyone on this board. You're more than welcome to provide any evidence to back up your claim though. I suspect you won't, as you realized you were wrong in the first place, and your sole defense mechanism was to start slinging shit by flaming the athletes (presumably me) on this board. You're right, intellect just oozes out of that style of debate. Make another unfounded accusation and you're done here. |
