Don't forget to celebrate National Tartan Day tomorrow, April 6th. Toss back a few drams and toast the declaration of Arbroath, April 6th, 1320.
Cheers,

Carlos

"For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

I was so proud, my 7 year old daughter ask if she could wear her
tartan sash to school. She made sure to explain to everyone why she
had it on. Oh and of course the boys wore their kilts too.

From the declaration of Arbroath (1320) to the US war of Independence from British Tyranny

"If all else fails, I will retreat up the valley of Virginia, plant my flag on the Blue Ridge, rally around the Scotch-Irish of that region and make my last stand for liberty amongst a people who will never submit to British tyranny whilst there is a man left to draw a trigger." George Washington, Valley Forge.

"Call this war by whatever name you may, only call it not an American rebellion; it is nothing more or less than a Scotch Irish Presbyterian rebellion." - A Hessian Officer

BTW, many to most exiled Scottish Highlanders from the Jacobite Rebellion were loyalists to the Britsh Crown, which had exiled them.  This includes Flora MacDonald and her husband who was actively supportering and recruited loyalists in North Carolina.  An interesting exploration of why can be found : http://www4.uwm.edu/celtic/ekeltoi/volumes/vol5/5_2/newton_5 _2.pdf

We had a wonderful 1st Annual Tartan Day gathering in Tucson this year. Live music all day, several different vendors, artists, whiskey tasting, ect.... Was a great first event.
