Anybody out there?  Drop me a line if anyone is even nearby.  There are three of us right now training at my place, but were looking for some good competitions in the area, other than La Crosse's highland games, to hit up this season.

I'm based in Madison and I'm going to get a game together here on 02Jun.  I'm trying to find a suitable location right now.  There will also be 2 more games in the Rockford, IL area on 12 May & 23 Jun.  Right now, there's just not much of note going on in WI, aside from Bristol Ren Fair end of July (which fills up fast).  I'm hoping to have our website live by the end of the week.

A number of IA events, including Des Moines, also on 23 Jun, Quad City Games at the end of Aug, I believe a German Ren Fair over Labor Day, Cedar Rapids near the end of Sept., and the 4 Kingdoms Ren Faire in early Oct.

Send me your email, either by pm, post, or email, and I'll put you on my regional list.  We're going to be hosting a practice in Rockford this weekend, though we're not sure of the time yet.

Other resources for you would be McSanta centered in Rock Island, IL, and my partner, Jason Clevenger in Rockford, IL.  There's also a reasonably large MN contingent, but I'll let them introduce themselves

Doesn't MN have a games?  I know they have a strongman comp in Stillwater...or at least they used to.  I would love to a game in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul area...that way my family could see me throw (USAF stationed at Keesler AFB, MS but born and raised in St. Croix Falls, WI)

The festival is that day, don't know about the games.

MN is having a game in May.  Jeff Bryant is the AD, I believe.

MN is having their games May 19, 2007 this year, Jeff Bryant is the AD. It is a great games from what I have heard.

Northsider, if you are interested/ willing to make the trek, there is a group of throwers that get together in the Rockford, IL (as Dennis mentioned).

I am near Milwaukee should you ever be in the area and would like to throw, lift, converse about the games, etc. Shoot me a PM or email... Always happy to help.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Weaselking, we were considering going to the quad city games, but I am a little confused by their sign up sheets.  Do we (it must seem stupid to keep saying we, but im speaking for three :)) have to sign up way in advance or do you think there will there be room for a couple of amatures if we come in that day.  I'll be finishing up school and looking for one of those job things, so planning is hard to do.  Yeah, just wondering if you had ever been there and had some more insight...

Also Eclipse, do you Rockford boys get together besides this weekend?  The girlfriend is from Chicago, so we head down that way once in a while... I think we might be down around Easter.   I have to warn you all though, I am an complete newbie and I don't think i'd be able to bring anything to the table!

With the snow now subsiding, we throw as a group a few times a month (depending on games). Send your contact information to weaselking or myself and we will let you know when we are getting together as a group. As mentioned earlier, weaselking is in Madison, I in Milwaukee, should you make your way to either of those areas for some throwing.

And we try to rotate practice venues between Rockford, Milwaukee, and Madison to give each other a break from the drive.  And if you ever find yourself down our way on a weekeday, give us a yell.  We'll practice any day we can get some throwing in.  You might give Dave Schultz a call (he's on the board), as he has a group that is closer in to Chicago.

And don't worry about being new.  This is my 2nd year in, and I still can't offer anything productive.

There will be a few days in the spring early summer I will be in Sparta visiting the folks.  Also a few days during the summer.  I run the LaCrosse Games so private message me your info....or email me at trainerterry@yahoo.com

Weasle you can offer many productive things...only you have the ability to use your Rosetta Stone and cipher the Sarges posts.  I predict you will beat Clevenger this summer at least one games.

I'm a Minnesota thrower.  I'm currently exploring the possibility of a Lake City games.

Drop me a line:

Also, nothing good can come of you associating yourself with th WI or IL throwers.  They're a shifty bunch.

ah ha, you must be the Terry my buddy Luke Crowley was talking about.  Thanks for all the invites everybody and even though we only have homemade implements, we do have a bit of space if anyone is in our neck of the woods.

By the way, when i head down to chi-town, i go to morton grove and sometimes hawthorn woods.  Its a bit more of a drive to aurora, but since its not just a place but also a state of mind, the hour or so more wouldn't be too bad.

A lake city games would be great.  Nice town... lots of boats if i remember right.

Amana Colonies are 17 miles southwest of Cedar Rapids off of US 151

info on Amana Colonies  http://www.amanacolonies.com/

The Amana Colonises (Amana, East Amana, West Amana, South Amana, High Amana and Middle Amana) were founded by a religious group from Germany in the 1850's.

Today, Amana is a major tourist attraction known mainly for its restaurants and craft shops. Included in the shops are woodworking shops, wine shops, and even a brewery. The colonies as a whole are currently listed as a National Historic Landmark.

Still working on details --
Accomodations: I think there will be free camping.

Events: Highland games with a salute to the Germans (is that possible?) -- Will have a keg toss for height and distance on one or both days.  The  promoter has left it open and does not require me to base anything on German events even though it is a German Medieval Rein Faire.

May do a watered down version of what Josh Roslik pointer out on Big Kips - German Heavy Events called Rasenkraftsport (Lawn Force Haven = Hammer, weight throw, and stone put) -- but with highland games weights rather than T&F weight for a special prize on one of the days.

Good News - I know how much you love this event:
The Stupid Stone will return since it is not only an Irish event but documented proof of it being a Swiss event (from 13th century) that moved to German.  This proves Alcohol and heavy stones always leads to throwing.

Swiss Stone Putting info

From the German - American Festival Society web page:  (http://www.gafsociety.org/fest.htm)
Steinstossen (Stone Throwing)
The Toledo United Swiss invite you to join in the excitement of Steinstossen - Stone Throwing contest - with divisions for men and women. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places in both divisions. Men: How far can you throw a 138-pound rock? Ladies: How far can you toss a 75-pound stone? The Ohio record for men is 14'-4" and 10'-10" for women. No pre-entry required. Saturday and Sunday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM

More info to come

Mark

Dennis, is there anymore on a potential Madison games on 6-2?

Thanks for the posts everyone, got some great ideas.  Now all i got to do is sit down with the old skullsmasher and plot out our invasion.

It would be tought for a 190 class...because of time and space.  We could keep there scores seperate hwile they compete...but I do think we are in a position to have seperate flights this year.

Luke that will give the lil guy more initiative to eat better and lift hard....like you probably tell him to do anyway.

Yeah thats kind of what I'm hoping for him to do.... and as far as the lightweights having seperate scores, I think that method would be the most practicle and efficient for the LaCrosse games

Northsider- During the summer I'm up in Wilmette, IL about half the time, and as Dennis said I run practices as often as I can with some other local throwers. They're always last minute though, so if you're gonna be in town and feel like practicing jest shoot me an email and I'll see if I can pull something together!
