tendo is near $1000... Bert will be able to quote a price. There are a few similar products... whether they are as reliable or accurate I do not know. I have two units besides my tendo.... they are both under $200 I will look for some info for you |

I've been thinking about that as well. You might be able to
get your money back on a Tendo unit by training some high school kids with it. |

Well I enjoy training anybody gratis, but if parents are
willing to pay, then why not. Let's face it, if you do the health club thing, then you get stares for lifting all of it week in week out, and somebody (like a parent) finally approaches you and asks you to work with his kid. The club trainers will goober up some plan for him, which is why they don't make very good hs athlete trainers. So you tell them you'll do a plan after some measurements with the Tendo. You bring the Tendo into the club for other hs kids to see and they get curious, but their parents won't buy them a 1 grand piece of equipment. No problem, train them. They wouldn't know how to use the thing correctly. So now you have a way to pay back the Tendo expense. The Tendo would be a hook for business, but it is a legitimate hook. I think it's good stuff. |

With the Tendo, you are measuring the max velocity AND the average velocity. A myotest might be a cheaper option. The measurements aren't as consistent between testings but they can give you a good average velocity during a set and the myotest is a lot cheaper (TENDO is WAY better, but if you are looking at a cheaper option). Then there is an Elieko V scope, it will give you a max velocity and will track the bar....but it's cumbersome, the computer that comes with it is ancient and it's expensive.

I have been drooling over the myotest propackage.... for the computer program and the ability to work with Dartfish software. Myotest basic is still 600-700. I like the tendo set up better. I called to get bid prices on two cheaper items that should be under 200 bucks that might fit what you want... post tomorrow |

Yeah HB im sure you can't tell how fast a bar is moving by ,,,oh I don't know...WATCHING IT!
You should for sure get a million dollar piece of equipment to tell you if you are moving fast or not. By the way I have a some vertical jump training shoes Id like to sell you. |

Skip, Seeing if something is fast or not is indeed pretty easy, so it grabbing a bar and telling if it is heavy or not. I appreciate the simplistic approach, but we live and compete in a quanitified world. You CANNOT tell a bar's speed with any reliability from the eye. It's too emotionally based IMO. Our sport is quantified. Ask number 11 on the Celtic list how a few points can change your outlook on your season (specifically, you can ask me The whole purpose fo the Tendo is having measurable results in training and testing. In a battle for inches, every bit counts. FYI, We also carry the Myotest, and have compared the two, and we still find the Tendo to be more reliable, more accurate and more applicable to our style of training. I know when I was using the Tendo everyday, I threw very far and high, and had a ton of PR's. Also I was injury free. When I went the other way, and tried to load on the volume, get really strong etc, I had great results early, then got hurt, and my season suffered. I know when Dave Brown started using the Tendo, a few months later he broke the WR in the WOB. I think 18'6" to over 20'. hmmmmm. He can elaborate on that. Needless to say I will be going back to the Tendo this year. If you are a pro, or even a personal trainer, the $ you spend on it should equate into additional income and winnings pretty quickly IMO. If nothing else, if you stay healthy, you are ahead as well. I know I have spent more that $1000 on medical bills this year. And I still feel like crap. Lastly, we are about to start a new program for selling Tendo factory re-built models, which may work into your budget a little better. Sorry guys, I did not want to turn this into a Tendo commercial, but I feel strongly about it, and a Venti Cafe Mocha with triple shot expresso will get ya a little jacked up at 6am. If ya'll have more questions about it, feel free to call or email me. Bert FYI - Those forbidden from using the Tendo next season: Overfelt, Brock, Betz, McKim, Vierra, HB3, Frasure, The Barrons, Chafin, C Smith, Brown, Zolk, St. Clair, MacKay, K Smith, and anyone else who is a Pro, except Mike P, there is no way that guy will ever beat me. I am not worried. |

Hey Skip, Last I checked my lifts have converted into some damn decent throws. Maybe you should start taking interest rather than ridicule. Besides, if you can spend a pretty penny on viagra and rub and grow ointments I can spend a couple on a tendo. PS - You know I can't fit your "little guy" shoes! |

Bert or his dad actually sold me my Tendo. I have messed around with Micro-muscle machine years ago but could not find any current info. It was close to a Tendo. I have looked at the Myotest... but until you actually mess with one I have a problem saying if I like it. Though I will be checking it out soon I hope. I have a unit that I think could be useful in the training of athletes or personal training clients. and that is the Power Factor Training Computer. It does a few nice things like keep track of time or work and rest. It measures speed but not as well as the tendo. It measures power but does not allow you to filter distances in certain exercises like the Tendo. It can used with settings for 4 athletes. http://www.power-systems.com/p-3857-power-factor-strength-tr aining-computer.aspx I have been looking at an acclerometer (no spell check loaded) There is one that has been used by some coaches at the Olympic Training Center that costs under 200 that you attatch to a bar and sends the info to a computer. Not sure about whethter the data would be useful during workout. For me the greatest uses of the Tendo are based on two types of workouts. Dynamic for olympic lifts I use it to choose the weights I use in snatches and in cleans. I shoot for 1.7 meters a second on snatches and 1.5 on cleans/ For Squats and other powerlifts I will use it strictly as a motivator to be as explosive as possible and hit as fast a speed as possible as with chains and bands measuring power is tough. The other use is when I do the olmpic lifts or other traditional exercises and I try to produce as much power as possitble and modify weight used based on total power produced.
