Ya, I thought that's what you meant.  It's be so long since I asked that question, though, I can't remember why.

Where the heck are you guys getting this disposable equipment and where are you throwing it.  I mean, if you throw between 50 and 70% of your snatch, that's going to leave a huge hole!  I have a hard enough time finding equipment to lift the O-lifts on let alone getting to throw it.  You guys are lucky.  Judging by the "Hot Fatty" videos, you guys have a pretty sweet set up.  Got any for sale?  I'll even buy the beat up stuff that Ryan throws!

Yeah, I personally can't see throwing bars and weights (although I believe Alexeyev was known to do this, and a bunch of other weird stuff, like lifting in a lake).  If I'm outside, I'm throwing something earthier, like a weight, stone, hammer, or caber.

BTW, the best prices I've seen for bumpers are from Jesup Gym Equipment,

http://www.jesupgym.com

Their 45's cost $54 each, and 25's cost $30 each.  These are all-rubber plates with metal hubs.  They're made from recycled tires, as far as I can tell.  I have some and am quite happy with them.  Anybody seen bumpers for less?

As for throwing the weights get a pair of tires with the hubs still attached.  They fit the O-bars pretty well and you can add weight to the ends.

Ah, not bad.  This, I can afford.

Oh, yeah, that's right, I forgot Bill mentioned that earlier.  I have to figure out exactly what this entails.  If that's a wheel on its own, I'd need to know what kind of wheel it is:  front wheel drive is different from rear wheel drive, for example.  It there's hub parts involved, I have to figure out what they are.

I presume you end up relying on collars to stabilize the weight (not needed with the greater thickness of a weight plate)(?).

But the real question is... is there any point to catching the weight? I would imagine there is a plyometric effect but I get that throwing - I've gone back and forth from high pulls to cleans... when I started doing cleans I noticed a double knee-bend snuck into my WOB technique, trying to train that out now.

TIM - go to the classifieds and buy 2nd hand old cheap stuff for next to nothing - my garage bar is just a straight bar - I don't need an olympic bar to train in the driveway - especially if I get a wild hair and throw it around - snatches for height !

Dave, there is a point to "catching" the weight. It greatly helps an athlete's Neuro Rate Reactivity, or the ability to quickly transition through a concentric/eccentric movement (coupling time).

As you said, you get some of that "plyometric effect" from your throwing, but the relative force in the transition is not nearly as great

Hey guys,I just started doing snatches a couple of months ago.I've worked my way up to a whopping 205#.I can't do the squatting thing, so it's more like a power snatch.I appreciate all the little tidbits I've picked up from all of you.Every time I look on this thread, someone throws in another trick to performing this lift better.I've done the throwing the bar thing before and talked about it on another thread. The tip about the car wheels is great!A friend of mine owns a junkyard,so guess where I'm headed now. Thanks again.

Hey, I'll be interested in learning what you find out about doing the car wheel thing.  Slingblade's comments were too short on details.

The wheel thing works great!I found a pair that match and weigh almost identically.I was so happy to find them that I had to try them right there. One word of caution;don't air them up all the way!I threw the bar in the air and almost broke my jaw when it bounced back up at me.I can't wait to load it up a little heavier when I lift tomorrw.

All right, now give me details:

 - Does the ID of the wheel hub fit the bar well?
 - Did all of the wheels fit the same?
 - Is it stable on the bar, or do you need a strong collar to keep it from wobbling?

Ink wiring minds want to know.  Good point about inflation.

The unveiling of this year's model will be on Saturday, June 4, in the village of Greenfield, NH.

It looks like these will be terrific games (even though McSantoli and Zolk won't be there).  I just hope the weather's good.  We've been lucky so far this year...

Wayne, the ID fits pretty close. They are 14" car rims.I found that a 35# plate fits snug inside,so to keep it from sliding or moving,I just put 2 spring clips together.Works pretty good. After throw it up and down a couple of times the wheels only moved maybe 1/2".I'm like a little kid with a new toy.HEEHEE.
