Just an out of interest thread. What marks did everyone get in their first attempts with the games, and if you want to save yourself from embarrasment, you can include your improvements.

Well, we could all agree to blame the event...

Caber turning requires carrying the right model of the event in your head.  Once you get it, it's a lot easier (but you knew that).

I did my first competition with no throwing background and without ever training with anyone...so it might give you a better "non-phenom" baseline.

First Competition
Open stone      33'4"
HWFD              24'9.5"
LWFD               45'7"
HH                   68'0.5"
Caber               50 degrees
16# Sheaf         22' - had never even seen a sheaf
WOB                  12'

After 2.5 season and 16 competitions here are my current pr's:

Current PR's

Open stone      42'
HWFD              31'5.5"
LWFD               62'11.5"
HH                   75'8"
Caber               12:05 w/ 19' and 135# caber
16# Sheaf         32'
WOB                 13'

Sarah, how much do the womens braemar and open stone weigh?

I posted my first results in the strength level thread. Best marks I thought were 44 in the open stone, 99 in the  light hammer and a 12 foot WFH after going in at 9 and taking 13 throws to finish the comp! Plus hitting the bar on 13'. I'm doing a WFH this weekend, hopefully I'll beat that mark.

I couldn't swear to it, but I think the Braemar's have been running about 14-16# & the opens are around 8#.

Open Stone (16 lbs):  29'7.5"
HWfD:  16'1"
LWfD:  38'1.5"
Heavy Hammer:  53'3"
Caber:  65 degrees.

Don't recall what my results were at another games.  Although, it was the first time I flipped a caber in a competition.  The only other time I had managed it was the practice session prior.

My first games was Warrensburg this year.

Open Stone =  32'

HWFD =  18'

LWFD  =  44'

HH = 60'

LH = 76'

Sheaf = 18' x 20#

WOB = 14' with 42#

Caber = 65 deg; this one hurt because I had practiced a lot.  Plenty of turns in practice.  Choked in the games.  Went out and turned 12 consecutive the next day just to get rid of the bad taste.

Well, my first games was Sept of 2001.  I didn't do another until Oct. of 2002.  My first season I did was 2003, so I have 2 seasons under my belt, w/ somewhere around 17 games total.

        Sept. 2001        Last Season

Stone   35'5"         & nbsp;     45

HWFD   24'8.5"     & nbsp;     34'8"

LWFD   40ish     &nb sp;     72'5"

HH       82         &nbs p;     86'6.5"

Caber    7 degrees(not 70)         a few 12's here and there

Sheaf    19         &nbs p;       26

WOB      11         &nbs p;      13'6"

This season, I have dropped 50lbs, so it seems like I am starting from the beginning again sometimes.

Oh, and my first games PR's from last year (mind you, two months after having my baby):

OS: 22'

HWFD: 19' 10"

LWFD: 39'

LH: 54' 7"

HH: 45' 9"

Sheaf: 13'

WFH: 10'

Guess this leaves lots of room for improvement this year!  I'm hoping to improve those throws quite a bit...    Hardly fitting for a Burchett!

Yeah, well the other Burchetts can't look forward to the kind of improvement you can make.  I'm somewhat serious about this:  there's nothing like looking back and saying, "You should have seen where I came from."

Yeah, I didn't even post my caber turn, because I didn't even turn it...  This year, I already have three 12's at one competition!  WOO!

And yes, I'm really looking forward to the improvement I'll hopefully make this year!
