Hey everybody I'm new to the board and to the games. I've only competed
in 1 so far and that was LaCrosse's games last summer. I had a blast. I
throw discus, shot, and weight for UW-LaCrosse so Highland Games are
right up my alley, I am training with Northsider in his back yard and we
have plans to hit as many games as we can this summer. If anybody has any
tips for training or anything else please feel free to fire them at me. I'm here
to learn,

Yeah I'm the only one to post on my thread... but I didn't want it to feel neglected.  Anyhow I was wondering what everybody thought is the single most important lift someone can do for the games?  I would think something like powerclean or snatch... but then I guess a case could be made for deadlift as well... anyway let me know what you guys think.

why dont you ask that question in the training forum, you'd probably get a better response than what you are getting now (nothing but ridicule)

You were the sandbagger at LaCrosse, right?  In that case, I would suggest you bashing yourself in the knee.  With a pipe.

Does that help?

There is not one single lift for HG nor is there one for any other sport. You have to train the whole body and there is not one exercise that will do that

Don't worry bud I'm not trying to devise a one lift work out plan here I'm just trying to get a feel for the type of lifting that would be sport specific for the games.

Luke,

Your training for the throws at UW-L is what you need.  Except for training a few different events the lifting should remainn consistent with the things you are presently doing.  If you search through the training threads that will be made quite clear.

Now as you get older/mature and get better technique in these events, I recommend you do heavy cheat curls in the squat rack at any event I am competing at

Weasel, I tried the pipe thing, but found the wedding night video to be more
painful... I think I'll go back to the regular lifts.

I see your making friends, Luke.  I do like the idea of a little pipe action, perhaps something to even us out a bit, but that's gonna take one hell of a pipe.

Around this crowd, you'd best not mention how you'd like "pipe action".  Clevenger might take you up on it.
