We lost another warrior last week. Kenny Starnes passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024. He would have been 74 on the 23rd of this month. He and Susan were married for 50 years. He was a Vietnam veteran who suffered from the effects of Agent Orange. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone or anything. We would talk on the phone, {I should have called him more often} and even in our last conversation about three weeks ago he said he was doing fine.
He and I had many battles on field, especially as masters. I think we both ended up at 500. It really didn't matter because we both enjoyed the experience more than the victory. I spent the night at his home once before we both traveled to a games in NC. He had a room full of trophies, but never mentioned it. Susan brought it up and I could tell Kenny was uncomfortable about showing it to me. He was as strong an individual as I've ever known. He loved the caber and the WOB. I will surely miss him. His service is at Red Hill Baptist Church (4695 Red Hill Rd Camden SC 29020) this Saturday (Jul 13) at 3 PM. Funeral home is Hancock Elmore Hill in Bishopville SC. Susan held his hand when he made the transition to his new home. |
