Hey everyone,

I've read just about every throwing thread on this site and have watched hours of video. I understand and can explain what a good hammer throw should look like. However I CANNOT consistently keep my arms long on the release. My winds have been feeling much better, best they have ever felt probably, however most of the time I tend to pull the hammer into my release instead of push it. I was wondering if anyone had and unique cues or things that I might try that would help with that. Thanks in advance!!

If your having problems with flat release aka a pull vs push. Try to pull the hammer out of its orbit at the 6oclock position in front of you.

Pulling up and pushing out. Use your left shoulder and neck as a 90° angel. You should be trying to release at the 45°. You physically can't do it but you'll have a over the shoulder push vs a under the shoulder pull.

Different perspectives I suppose, but I would never advise anyone to pull on the hammer for the release. For me, the finish is simply turning and pushing into the field.

A cue I tell people is to imagine you're smacking someone with your right hand. You smack them so hard that you follow through into the field behind you. Haha, silly, but it works for me.

Personally, I found that focusing on driving the left hip up on the finish helped me stay long on the release. YMMV.
