Sounds simple doesn't it?
Old enough to know better. Still too young to care.

There isn't one.

Because then what would people complain about?

Women always threw the 28, then the complaining started that it was too heavy and not "fair" when compared to the old man's weight.

Now you're all caught up.

And if you think the bitching about the masters women throwing the 28 is bad, you can't even begin to imagine the butt-hurt whining you get when you suggest that the masters men cowboy up and throw the 56.
Cheers,

Carlos

Yeah-

That's not gonna happen either... but its fun to suggest.

How about we leave it all alone and do it the way we've been doing it?

We've been through enough of this stuff. I'm not convinced we should change the way we've been doing it because it impacts our Scottish Masters Records. Any change that diminishes the value of a long-established record is a significant change and requires a good reason for change. Because its too heavy is not a good enough reason. Discrimination claims and comparisons with slavery are just nonsense.

Nothing suggested or proposed is worth making a change in the Records.

Last year we added a W45-49 age group and they can throw the 21 and this year we added the W40<155 group and they also can throw the 21 lb weight. So, most women can throw the 21 but to preserve the tradition started at MWC2003 we can let the young Masters women throw the 28.

Can we move on?

-K

I personally always believed that the right way to run the masters divisions was to drop events as you got older, not change weights. At 40 you drop the HWFD and only contest the other 8 events with standard weights. At 50 you drop the HH. And so on. Changing weights is all about ego, wanting to tell people you can clear 16' in WOB when you can really only clear 13'. It troubles me to see top pros out there topping out at 17' and then the so called masters come in and clear the same height with a considerably lighter weight. It makes it difficult for the spectators to appreciate just how incredible the top pro athletes are.
Cheers,

Carlos

The easiest "solution" is to have the young old farts (40-44) throw the 56... Wink

+1

It sucks as an amateur when you win the WOB and go out and the masters are still in for 3 more feet. Spinning no less.

If anyone reading this post is part of that group who is causing this problem. Look in the mirror, remember the reason people love our sport is for the people, for the chance to compete in an ancient sport that allows everyone a chance. Do not be selfish it is not al about you. Learn from those who came before you and threw the 56 because they wanted to throw with the group.
You gave rights but mostly you have responsibilities as a Highlander the responsibility to leave the sport better than you found it.
