Hi Everyone,

My names Steve from New Hampshire but i currently reside near Boston Mass. I recently went to the Maine Highland Games and actually saw a friend Jeff Kaste Competing. I had never actually attended any event before but after seeing it I DEFINITELY NEED TO START DOING THIS.  I have been lifting and training my whole life and am an ex D1 defensive tackle. And before that track athlete in HS. I currently lift six days a week and am very active but i need something to feed my addiction for competition. looking for someone to train with and show me the ropes. (hopefully close) any input would be greatly appreciated. (This is a very serious post i am already on board just need an "IN")

Thanks a Ton

Steve

(and yes jeff its youngy if you read this)

First off let me say Welcome.  If you already know Jeff than this is your way in.  The man is climbing to the top and can def show you the ropes.  His name on this board is  Thejeff96.

Pretty active group in New England.  Next games is Quechee, VT this Saturday and next is Scotland, CT in early Oct.

Hey Steve good to see you showing interest!! I would suggest watching some videos online and finding a stone cause those are the easiest and most free ways to start training. I know you know how to throw a shot put so start with that.

Also you need a kilt.

I would say you should train with me in Berwick but if you're living in Boston that could be difficult. There are a bunch of great guys in Mass like John McKenney. This way you will get a hang of the events not by yourself.

Quechee Vermont is this weekend, might be a little too soon to get into but I would say that Scotland, Connecticut games is the perfect starter games and gives you a month or so to get prepared. I am pumped you wanna do this because I think you'll be great at it! Glad I could help!

There are couple of formal videos that would help familiarize yourself with the events, especially when practice with others is infrequent or impractical.
VP Productions (advertised at the top) has theirs which goes through the VERY BASICS of the events and lots of footage from pros in the 90's and is about 35 bucks for the one disc.

Another more recent one is at eastidahoscots.org that is alot more indepth with slow motion instructions for proper form, then lots of pros footage for each event, and lots of instruction recorded from two of Ryan Stewart's clinics. This one is a two-disc set and only costs $25. A sample is on their website.
