I have a pair of Harbingers that I picked up at Dicks or Olympia years ago.  Nothing fancy and made of that woven belt type of fabric.  They are long enough to get a couple of wraps around the bar and I have not had any slippage issues when I use them.

I have APT's that I haven't been able to rip yet.  They are a bit thicker than I like but strong...and all those cool colors.  I bought a set of the blue two's from ironmind since I do alot of axle stuff.  Now that you mention it you are right the new material is a little slick once you get sweating.  But I love the thinness of them.

Spuds.  Last set you will need to buy.  I am a sweaty b@$t@rd, and when these things get a little slick POOF with some chalk and I am back to business.

1" climbing webbing. Cost you about $5 to make. You will NEVER break them.

There are still no better straps than the Ironmind ones.  Yes, they are slick to begin...but once you break them in, holy hell they bite into you.

My advice is to use the Ironmind ones like crazy: wipe chalk on them, your sweat, blood (no joke).  I have a pair that are easily 7 years old and they HURT when I wear them.  They have held up to 1000#+ silver dollar deadlifts.  I also have new ones that are slick and I am slowly breaking them in.

My partner uses the Spud Straps, and likes them.

I like the feel and bite of a cotton strap, so I use the ones from APT that are cotton on the bottom with a strip of webbing sewn on the top side.  I haven't broken a strap since I switched to that style.

I suppose, like Sean said with the webbing you could easily make your own of either variation.

There's no problem making your own, as long as you don't rely on your sewing for strength.  The sew-easy style short straps that IronMind sells are like this:  the sewing simply holds the ends together, but that's under your grip anyway.   I find a short strap works fine for anything I do, and is quicker on the bar (so doesn't mess up your setup as much).

On a related note, I only ever wrap around the bar once anyway, and have never lost anything up to 1125.  I find that it's more comfortable and more like just grabbing the bar.

This is exactly what I do with the climbing webbing. Only I just keep the ends together with a few wraps of tape. I might have to change tape up every 6-12 months.

I've had the same pair of straps for 12 years.

Like Craig, I'm just fixing the bar to my hand tighter. Dont need it attached to my wrist like the other ones.

Anybody like the Shiek straps with the dowels? I like the feel and the quickness of them. I don't use the amount of weight most of you guys use, so i don't know if they are worth anything with the really heavy weight.

I've got the Ironmind sew easy straps but I'll buy Spud straps next time.  I also want the Spud pulling harness.

I really like my ironmind straps now that I have them broken in. At first they were slick but chalk, sweat, blood and sharp knurling has them nice and rough and they don't slip one bit anymore.

Rob Roeder makes the best lifting straps in the world, period. His stuff is legendary in the wire hammer community.

These look exactly like the ones I use and love, although I got mine from jumpstartathletics.com (owed by a former wire hammer thrower as well). My original pair is just beginning to degrade after a few years of hard use. Personally, I really prefer this style, but it's probably what one is used to. I do find the Ironmind Shirt and Sweet or Sew Easy straps to be just a bit too short for my liking.

+1 on the Rob Roeder straps, been using them for years.  They will never break and he is an old-school artisan who makes a ton of throwing related stuff.

I have used lots of different straps, never liked any of them.  Now I use versa-gripps. I have never missed a lift because of grip and this includes several pulls over 1000#.  They literally stick to the bar.  I am currently on my second pair. I finally broke the first ones which were several years old while doing a car deadlift.  Great product.
Three sets of twenty ought to make you feel strong.

All 100% accurate. I have them because Mike gave them to me and they are awesome. I use them for cleans deads rows pretty much anything where you hold a bar and they are fantastic.
