I posted this in my Training Log, but I also wanted to post it here, hoping to get more views...

I'm looking for some suggestions, tips, drills, etc to help with my Stones. I threw shotput in High school 20 years ago, I'm just getting started in Heavy Athletics, did my 1st event in October, I have my 2nd event coming up in February.

In October my Open Stone was 37-2, Braemar (22#) was 28-0.

Stills from Open Stone Video #1.

Looks to me like I'm opening up WAY early...

The biggest issue you are having is not keeping the right foot turning.  Look at stills 3-5 the right foot stays pointed at the back of the trig.

the knee turns but there is nothing driving the knee and hip out.

Since this happens there is nothing generating speed so you go to the upper body with help from the legs or hips.

I would say the biggest issue to correct first is keeping the right turning.  Once that gets better go from there.
