training?  nope.  just tea parties.

my last hard lift was in may, and my last easy quick lifts were the end of June.  no lifting since then. only throwing a couple times a week during the early season, and i don't practice after Ptown.

just no reason to do it.  throwing hard at a game with so much competition takes a huge toll on me, and recovery isn't what it used to be now that i have bad sleep (kids), too much work stress, and i'm older.  early season, i'm just working on moving my gym strength into throwing strength...there's a big difference in the two for me, and i mostly need to remember how to be patient, hold the position, and find the timing.

i don't need to practice this time of the year, i got SO MANY reps in the first 5 or 6 years i was in this sport the technique is ingrained, and i've had enough competition throws this season by now that i'm not going to make any of it any better - all i have to do now is take a couple throws to remember my cues and try to feel rested (mostly mentally rested) for the game.

threw last weekend in Charleston - what a picturesque game.  driving down the main plantation entrance through the willows weeping down over the road and the spanish moss hanging so thick it almost brushes the car.  man, it takes you back in time.

bad marks all day - one of those screw-off games where you sit around and joke all day.  great time.  had a 119 HH that surprised me b/c i wasn't trying to throw far at all (and was drinking a couple beers = performance enhancing).  I decided that i wanted to take a few extras to try to steal Dan's record away (was probably the most flexible HH I've thrown all year) and they stopped me after 1 so the band could come on.  Boo bagpipes.  was warm and loose and happy and felt like i feel in training when i throw bombs.  rare to feel those big throws about to happen during a game.

meh.  next time.

beach was a blast afterwards.  Bella is insane at the ocean.

Celtic recap…  hands down the Celtic has the best crowd in all of highland games.  Awesome festival.

Fun weekend, overall pleased with how I did.

Second on the challenge caber for distance.  I hate this event.  The crowd doesn’t even like it because they see every attempt turned and have no idea what a good throw looks like.

LH – just under 140.  Squeaked out a win over Dan on this uphill field.  Haven’t picked up a hammer since Charleston, so I was happy it was there.  Was tempted to take a couple extras because I felt like I could get the record with one or two more throws, but decided to save it for this long weekend.

Breamar – SUCKED.  Concave stone and I just couldn’t find the handle.  Couldn’t get a flick on it, and never felt confident enough to get a reasonable throw off.  DEEP hole to dig out of…9th place here.

HWT – 43’10” I think.  Good.  The heavy has been there for me this year.  I get more patient as I get older and it helps in the heavy stuff.

Sheaf – 33.  I’ve had lots of pull this year.  (using a Diablo fork, btw.  Muy bueno)  got sketchy at 29 ft where I was nailing the bar on the way up, finally realize I was lining up wrong because they use a scissor lift instead of standards, stepped out farther, and had more room to go.

Caber – 1st.  Legit championship stick (140# and 19.5 ft or something like that.)  Have been working this for a while now, and I finally got my timing right and really attacked the stop.  One of my best pulls all season.

HH – 115, felt very stiff and tight on the second morning…didn’t feel like I was going to throw far.  Should have been able to get after one, but ground was crap and I couldn’t stop falling forward.  Whatever.

Stone – 53’9”  happy with this.  Driving hard, separating, and lots of patience at the front.  Feeling the rt hip lift.  Also super painful out of the back…time to get this looked at - hernia appointment Friday AM.

28 – 80’.  Disappointed here, but only because this event has plagued me all season and I’ve been very inconsistent.  Adductor or pectineus injury has been there all season, and between that and what feels like a hernia…it’s really hard to move fast in this one.  Wt gets ahead of me and I can’t catch it.

Wob – technique was here for me, had lots of pull - but couldn’t get my start point lined up right for the stupid scissor lift (I hate these things).  V. exciting end to the game though – I make 18 and I win, miss it and get 3rd (from misses at 17).  Was hitting the bar on the way up or on the way down, and couldn’t get the peak over the bar.  Lots of fun though – crowd was really into it.

Breamar hole was too deep - My worst performance of the year.  Oh well…gotta do overhead work in the off season.

Haven’t lifted in a while, only practiced a couple times in the past couple weeks, and I felt great here.  Very focused, springy, and strong on the pulls (but week on the push = breamar).  Note to self – this late season style works for me.

One left – play down at Stone Mt.  Training for that will consist of tough mudder workouts with Mindy.

Bah, you gotta push the little man around in his walker, too.  No more KidBlob.   Heh.  Five sets, up the hill and no slackin' off.
